Dmv will never stop the fees. Till they get there fees

Not true, a car will fall out of DMV system after backfees are not paid for I believe it is around 5 years. However if you so much as run the plate or vin number with the DMV to see if there are back fees, I believe that 5 year timer restarts. So if you find a barn find from the 80's your probably fine. I bought a car that had not been registered in 20 years with no title and the biggest issue I had was explaining to them that it was indeed pre-smog.

Thought I would vent about my really awesome car buying experience today...

Been looking for an e36 M3 for awhile now and one popped up yesterday afternoon that was fairly cheap, texted the guy within 10 min of his ad showing up on craigslist, scheduled a time to come see it and he said to text him before I headed over and he would give me the address.

Today I book out of work so that I can go see it, text him for the address and says, I have 3 buyers coming to look at it tonight so if you don't come right now consider it sold. Then wanted me to make an offer over his asking price.

I said that I was serious about the car, but was honest with him in that I had found another car in the same area I scheduled to check out as well, and then I was going to decide if either seemed like a good choice.

He then told me that he would let me know if the 3 sales tonight fell through. He doesn't want any joyrides.

I told him to go fuck himself...not literally, but called him out on being an asshole. I hope he is a member on here and now feels like a complete fucking moron because there is no way I am buying his car even if it's an LTW version and he wants a dollar for it.

Never-mind id totally buy it for that, but I wouldn't take a "joyride" beforehand :)

it seems like more and more e36s are being bought by ex VW and Honda Guys so that smuck attitude might be coming with it. But then again i can say the same about e30s

Maybe, I think i will be going with an E46 M3 instead, looked a few now and they are quite a bit nicer than the E36s I have seen and the prices are getting real nice on the Manual ones.

But maybe that is it, I have had that experience with 3 different E36 cars so maybe its just those owners :)

I think most of the 3-series BMWs are getting sucked into by the drifters because they are awesome cars and RWD.

Ive seen their films, they are pretty good so that makes it ok for them to use E30s and E36 cars to drift with. The problem is all the wannabee drifters who hack the fenders, stance their cars and call it a drift missile or some stupid sh!t. a month later they are for sale with a drifter tax on them when all they've done is ruin the car

Hey, guys, I'm from LA and hopefully you guys can help me out. My steering rack is due for a swap. Originally, I planned on keep the steering rack stock. I've had a lot of difficulty sourcing a remanufactured rack from a reputable rebuilder, ZF or Maval. I don't want a cheap A1 or Atlantic rebuild, so I've looked into upgrading the rack. I found a nice e46 rack, but the final step is finding a reasonably priced mechanic to do the job for me. I called Bavarian Workshop in the Valley, they do great work but are out of my budget. Can you guys direct me to a mechanic who can swap an e46 rack into an airbag 1991 318is? I'll be providing the rack and the spacers. I believe those are the only parts I need. I'd like to keep the labor under a grand. Thanks in advance.

Give JMP a call. They are in Reseda. Im pretty sure theres another BIG piece to the E46 rack swap.

Jordans build has some good info about it...

"One of my goals here was to fabricate a linkage that would not require modification to the firewall for a more amicable angle as is often "required" on steering rack conversions on airbag column cars. I used 2 E46 steering linkages, cut down to just the ujoints and installed opposed on one another. The D shaped core is still inside and the finished product seen here will be tig welded as is. The linkage is able to articulate through full travel/rotation without any binding of the joints, and most importantly... without modification to the firewall or the mounting plate on the firewall."

That is exactly what i need to upgrade the steering rack on my pile. Is this linkage available for sale already?
