Give me a couple more years and I'll have the plan finalized.

Does anybody have some "old but not unusable" top strut mounts for cheap or free? I need a pair and if you can bring them to the Van Nuys meet tonight, I will pay you with some in n out.

So my 325e's slushbox transmission finally bit the dust and gave out on me this morning along the 101. I called JMP Auto regarding a 5 speed swap and they quoted me a little over $1500 for the job. Is that a fair rate for the job including the parts+labor for the swap or can i do better elsewhere?

they're a good shop and you know you're getting good work done. but you can always get it done elsewhere for cheaper. I used to do them for $800 parts and labor in a driveway, but with junkyard/used parts. and desperate.

Sometimes paying for piece of mind can go a long way. JMP and castro's are two of the best shops to do a swap with. If you can afford 1500 then go for it. Otherwise if you have the room, time and mechanical common sense attempt to DIY it.

+1 on this. Even times when I've had the money to take it to a reputable shop and have things done quickly I've decided against it because I'd much rather have the experience and know-how than save a couple hours or a day, I feel much more accomplished that way as well.

                          DT.

It's too bad i don't have the room or even time to attempt this myself.
Luckily i've been to JMP before and am aware of their quality workmanship, maybe at the end i can justify it and let them handle this process.
I just wanted to post here first to see if indeed that was a fair rate for a swap.
                            Thanks again!

I think that most shade tree mechanics, will charge closer to a grand now. $1500 for a shop seems fair enough.
