Good to hear how YOU treat your customers. I doubt you were arrogant on the phone. Obviously he can afford to turn away business. Just giving reasons why he would dismiss you and your car.

        this.

Not all high end shops will turn you down, but it depends im sure.

around the corner from my house

"Bavarian workshop" the guy is a bmw specialist and all day i see rare bmw's just parked outside the shop. Went in there once and he was nice enough to change my tranny fluid (after i provided the oil) but he really does have high end customers and im sure he would turn me away for a $100 diff fluid change when he can work on the m1 who drove in behind me.

In this situation money does do a lot of talking and most mechanics like to provide the parts and make some money off of it. which is understandable

but it's deff. not cool how he just cut you off like he did.

Go to the socale30 site (http://socale30.com/theforum/index.php). These are mostly guys from the San Diego area & are very nice as well as helpful. Post the parts you have & want installed - ask for recommendations on where to go. No need to tell the Fahey story as that is water under the bridge.

I'm kinda surprised you haven't been there already.

I agree fully with my long-time friend Barry here. If he can afford to turn AWAY business, then fuck him, you dont want your car there. Plus with that attitude you know your car wont be a priority. So who knows when youll get it back and how seriously he will take your requests.

Just go somewhere else. In my experience, I had many experiences where I heard really good things about a big shop with big names from people who were starstruck, and then when I tried them out, they acted exactly how you mentioned. Like THEY were doing YOU a favor. Fuck that.

Guys, E30 owners are not coveted BMW owners to most shops. You need to find the right niche shop, usually run by younger guys, to work on E30s. Newer BMWs yield larger tickets and that is what most BMW-centric shops want. E30s are just old, and owned generally by people who can't afford to keep them up.

And besides giving up the money on installing your parts (and sales of parts is a healthy chunk of a ticket) if the parts do not fit, do not come with everything associated with it, you're totally wasting their time to roll the car on and off the lift multiple times while you get the parts figured out.

Point taken. But as a business owner, who is to say the person calling about getting work done on an E30 doesn't have a fleet of other vehicles as well? Regardless of the reasoning, it's bad business to treat potential new customers that way IMO. Don't really want the work? Fine, over price the job, or tell the customer you are too booked right now to take a job like that on. Don't just hang up on the guy.

I have already moved on and found some great people to work with, so it's all good. At least other local E30 owners may now know not to even waste a phone call out to this shop.
