        Olive oil is oil based (no shit)
        Oil lubricates, just like your engine oil (aderpandherp)
        So your dash would normally be dry and hot leaving it prone to cracking and changing shape
        With olive oil the dash board still gets hot but it is not dry, the oil saturates the plastic making it more lubricated, and less prone to warping/shifting/cracking.

        I believe it also has something to do with plastic being a petroleum product and when it becomes dried out it loses it oil and property, the olive oil is suppose to account for its original petroleum that has been displaced by heat
