I attached a picture of the smog test we received with the car, any guesses what I should replace ro get it to pass? And a picture from the day my dad and mom picked it up. An older couple owned it for 14 years, second owner. Kept very clean.

I went through this with my friend not too long ago.

1221 is an o2 sensor fault code. Judging by those numbers the o2 sensor probably needs replacing. If that doesn't solve it, check the MAF, o2 relay, or worse comes to worse put another DME in it. Since you have a Non-Vanos Motor, you'll want the 402 one should you have to go that route.

1222 is similar as it may be an o2 sensor or vacuum leak.

For 100 bucks I would say just change the o2 sensor as it's good maintenance. See if that helps, then use process of elimination to solve the problem.

Smog is frustrating, but you'll get through it!

Ordering an o2 sensor as well as a bunch of other tune up parts tonight. I am hoping the horrible smog results are from the cats not being hot enough, and the bad o2 sensor. The car was owned by an old couple so I assume they never drove the car to get the cats hot before they smogged it. The car runs great with no problems and has smooth power, so hoping that means that there is no vacuum leak.

I told about a great one, but it isnt a quick easy deal... Maybe having a clean euro car in a rare color should be worth it doing a little leg work.

Yes, but not for what you would want to sell it for.

bmk, try craigslist. that area isnt happening so im sure if you pay the lump sum up front and are very clean you can rent an apartment.
or there are long term stay hotels for ~120 a night.
