You own an M3 and cannot fit 17s right? That is you not the car.

Non M e30 and I am running no adjusters in the rear with 17x9 235/40 with zero rub. 15" wheels fit tiny brakes. You guys need to step away from cheap "race wheels". 3pc build your own et and back spacing. U6L wheels are the only 15 I would track.

BBS RS are the best race wheel on the market. Source and build to suit.
A 17 will bolt on, but a tire with enough sidewall to protect the wheel will not. What can I say, I like round wheels, and ones that aren't cracked. I've tried 17s, and they sucked. I've driven other M3s with 17s, and they sucked (and rubbed like hell) Still they look goofy with the big wheels and rubber bands for tires. Just like a Hot Wheels car. I'd be interested in a set of 16s, but good tires are few and far between in that size.

The stock M3 brakes are plenty good for track use. I wish they weren't stupid single piston calipers, but they have plenty of stopping power with a set of track pads. That said, I doubt I will ever do a track day with the M3. I have something that is faster and already track prepped. If I were to take it out on track it would be with a very select few people and I can guarantee there would be no contact. Open track days are cool but I just don't trust the other drivers, that is why I vintage race. Those guys avoid contact at all costs because it will get you booted for a year or more. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to run the M3 full bore on the track, I just don't see it happening however. Its one thing if I screw up and stuff it in the wall, its a different story when someone else blows it and takes me out (much more likely to happen.)

I know there are lots of people running 17s on E30s, it doesn't mean its a good idea, nor does it mean it works well. I was pissed when I found out that my Ronals were all bent and one was cracked. I had an idea how bent they were by the pile of weights used to balance them, but when I saw the wheel spin, holy shit. No wonder it felt like I was driving on a washboard dirt road. The draw backs are far greater than the benefits (looks being the only one I can think of. Oh the ability to run roll center spacers as well, but those are an afterthought fix to a problem that should be solved with taller springs of the needed rate. ) When I first put the 15s on (with Nitto tires dated in the mid '90s) It did everything better, turned, accelerated, and stopped the steering felt more precise. It was a night and day difference. I then jumped in my friends M3 with Coilovers and 235/40/17s and couldn't pull out of the driveway without the tires rubbing up front. On the street it was skittish and nervous and wasn't nearly as precise and confidence inspiring as my car on 15 year old tires. What can I say, I gave them a chance and found too many drawbacks with too few gains.

Let's just say that the debate on 17's or not is more a matter of preference than anything else. I have 19's on my e34 touring (yes, I know that's controversial, but I have enough sidewall and it fills out the arches perfectly) and it doesn't ride all that harsh with the coilovers. I have stock 14's on the vert with coilovers too, and I can definitely tell the difference in cushion.

I agree with that in terms of daily use^ I miss a soft ride and not having to crawl along at 10mph in road work. But my car is not really a daily hence my crazy stiff suspension setup. My valved inserts and shocks eat bumps great and help from losing my pan. I have 11.5" from center of wheel to fender lip.

I went 17" for two reasons: 310mm brakes and wider tires. If I was going to stick with my UUC BBK, I would do a 6UL 15x9.

Comfort wise 16 is best while handling well. 18" looks bad imo on non M. 17 is max for me.

I respect your stand point if retaining stock spec size brakes(UUC, IE & Massive included).

                    Good chat Will.

I'm sitting about 3" off the ground with a peerless plate 1.5"-2" from the ground with the vert. Still go a little slow on certain roads. Haha. I'm just waiting for money to re-appear in my account to go up a couple sizes.

I definitely understand the need to go bigger to accommodate bigger brakes.

Wow I'm surprised that your car is only about a quarter inch lower than mine up front. I'm sure you have much more travel though :). Hopefully those barbets will be painted this weekend, I've been sick lately and haven't worked on them much.

No matter what my ride is not going to be soft.

Like F34R I went with custom valved and shorten struts/shocks with s500/700 spring rate from gc, and shortened housings.

There was a fello in socal selling Ronal ls 15x7, with spacers, with bilsteins, a strut brace, and zhp shift nob for like $900.

I might hit him up in a lil to see if he still has it. Cause that is a fantastic deal.

I can probably deal with my car rolling on some 15's.
