Tis true. I'm leaning with 185/65 and going from there; it will give me a nice stretch to go low if I need to later down the road

Before that I was running 235/40/17 on 17x8 et15. Before that I was on 225/45/16 on 16x8 et3.

All those on H&R race springs with front dropped 15mm and rear lifted 10mm + roll fenders flat. 185 is way too narrow on an e30, car will handle like shit.

Just for the record, 215 on 8.5 is waaaay more stretch that 205 on 7

No one said anything about them not fitting: they will fit, however everyone did say they are too small; running them through the fitment calculator has proved: yes, they are about 5% smaller than normal basketweave fitment (195/65/14x6.5)
