Thanks! I'm still hesitant to romp on it really, still need to do the post-engine-work second oil change. However, it feels solid.

So many months ago i got called out for my best bike speed on level ground. when i got my bike last year the fastest i got it to was ~20mpg. last week i got to 27mph without wind, rare in sac. my goal is to break 32mph by Dec. I know there are a few other good riders here, whats your max speed this year on flat ground with little to no tail wind?

Anyone have any recommendations for a shop in the east bay for a PPI on an E39? Preferably close to San Leandro.

In a sprint? 50. 48 mph was easy. I really needed a bigger front chainring to pull 50, a 53/11 is spun out at 48 mph. That was about 2001 or so. I'm hard pressed to clear 30 these days. Its depressing. I still cruise on flat ground at 20 average, for a 20 mile ride.

He wasn't even racing when I was fast. Try Alessandro Patacchi and Mario Cipollini. I got stopped by SLO PD one day in a school zone. The guy clocked me at 50 in a 25. I saw the radar gun. He let me off with a warning (slow down.) That is one ticket I wished I had gotten. I would have framed it. I was good for 1650 watts peak power, 53/11 at 133 rpm is 50 mph. So, yes I could have gone toe to toe with Cavendish, Patacchi, or Cipollini. Why am I not a pro? That is a very good question. I know plenty of riders who were far slower than I was who are now pros.

bc you have a job and aren't sitting on a family fortune. it seems like the pros in biking arent any better than high-ed hobbyists

I have several friends who race cat 1/2/Pro. They all have real jobs as well. My protege (for a lack of a better word) made me unbelievably proud a couple years ago when he got his cat 2, and a ride with Cliff Bar. I towed the guy back into the field more times than I can count when we raced in college. He was useless to me in a race because I could out sprint him any day of the week, but he stuck with it.

I guess I just wasn't in the right place at the right time. No, I was never a good climber, especially on the road. I'd get eliminated from a road race on the 2nd climb just about every time. Crits and time trials however, I was very good. Its really hard to win a race when you have no teammates who can help you.

I qualified to race at Collegiate nationals 4 years in a row on dirt, and 2 years on the road. I only got to go once (it sucks having no financial support, and paying for everything out of pocket with no return.) The result... 3rd place at MTB national championships in Reno, 1998. (I didn't know I finished on the podium so I packed up and headed home. I never got to stand on the podium and didn't find out that I had finished so well until the Wednesday after the race.

Anyone have a good condition 885 head for sale?

Just got the radio in the e34 working. However it is not loud at all. All the speakers work, but when I turn up the volume it doesnt project more sound than a whisper. Any idea what this could be? I removed the radio and all the connections looked fine. The fuses looked fine.
