I know, not cali, but. When i lived in portland i had a hot rod trans am, would not pass smog, ever. I reg'd it to another smog exempt county at a family members address. Worked, never got hassled for it. But, this is oregon.

At least that is what is going on with my registration currently. I need it smogged once, then never again.
        You are correct.

It will have to be smogged during title transfer but not again after that.

Lets organize a carpool to save on gas. I can grab a fiat 500 or possibly the Prius.

So is changing your address to a different county the same as a title transfer? So we go to the DMV and register our car in our name to that address, and then follow their instructions from there?
The first car I ever rode in was an e30

I feel like just having only a po box wont work...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you have to have an established settlement in the county to register a car in that place.

How can you change your address to a diff county, when you don't even have an address there?

You get the address first... Seems pretty self explanatory to me.

Get a PO box at a UPS Store. They give you a real street address to use.

where do you send mail to then? they give you an address. have you never had a po box before?

po boxes aren't that cheap either. best thing to do is put a couple of people on one and pay for the whole year up front. it's the cheapest way.

For me here is how it worked.

My parents own a house in lake county. This house did not have a mailing address so we got a po box, and a mail box for the house. Now we were able to register my car there.

What I am saying is that, how is only getting a po box going to allow someone to register their car in that county? Don't you have to have the car registered to an certain address?

What I get from you guys OS that once you get a po box then you get an address. Where does this address come from? This whole thing sounds too easy and unrealistic to me. I would be able to go to another state and get a po box, get an address and register my car there. If it is this easy, more people would be doing it by now. Yeah?

In the end, Idk if it works like that. Please feel free you correct me, because I really don't get what you guys are saying.

I'm wondering if you know what a PO BOX is.

Also I already gave advice above about a PO BOX through UPS Store.

                              So:
-Get a PO box in mariposa county
-Record address (will it be like "PO box 1234, Mariposa CA..."?)
-Set it up to forward all mail to your home address
-Go to DMV (your local DMV or one in that county?)
-Change address to that PO box
-Smog your car at this time?
                              -Never smog it again

                              Sound about right?
The first car I ever rode in was an e30

I think the UPS store idea is better than an address that has a PO Box attached to it. Seems like it would be easier to pay a little extra every two years to get the car smogged from a friend of a friend, if you know what I mean
