The reasons I decided to sell it are:

    1) I realized a well timed opportunity to receive a very substantial return on an investment

    2) I realized that after planning for, collecting all the parts needed, and building MY IMAGE of the perfect E30 M3, I realized that it wasn't the right car for me. I LOVED the way the car looked and perfrmed in every aspect, however I was paranoid every time I drove it. I tracked the car on 2 occasions, both of which I slightly damaged the body. Had this been a normal E30 I could care less, but to potentially destroy an M3, I realized that I could never drive the car the way I wanted to, without being scared about hurting it. I also realized that after doing some of the body work and prep with Alex Castro to change the color of the car, and that I was going to have a show car quality paint job, I would be too scared to even drive the car on the streets. These reasons, combined with the issues I ran into over the past year with developing the Alpha-N tune for the airbox with 2 different tuners, I lost my love for my dream car.

    3) Despite how well the car performed with the suspension I had on it, and the s54 set-up, I knew I would eventually get bored with the power. Seeing that I'm all about usable power, and that even with sticky 255/40/17s out back, the car had traction issues in various scenarios, I realized that the car was at it's full potential for MY PURPOSES. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I've driven some really fast cars, with way more grip lately, and I wanted something with more potential.

Granted I need to spend much more time on the track, honing in my driving skills before I can determine that the car was at it's full potential. However, with all the other reasons behind the sale, it was just the right move for me.

The E46 M3 is my new project, which I got a ridiculous deal on. Should be pretty impressive with flares, wide wheels and tires, and the LS6 and 6 speed.

Don't fret though, Grimace's legacy will be reborn in Chris Castro's M3. For helping the sale of the car to Frank, I gave Chris my techno violet paint, my purple m-tech interior, my alcantara headliner, and my AC Schnitzer steering wheel. His car will FINALLY be painted!
yeah, i get that you didnt straight trade, but still. I suppose not every1 is really that into the e30 m3, but they are a good investment in the auto world. How many other cars that are only 25yrs old are constanly going up in value rite now?

anyways, thats just MY opinion. if you made out on the sale, and were able to invest in some property, more power to you bro!

Great points polak, probably why Chris waited for so long to paint his I'd imagine he'd be the same way as often as he has tracked his M3 over the years regarding the paint thing. Even more excited to hear you're house hunting, congrats and you just tell me what booze to bring for the house warming party 8)

That's for a stock, or mostly stock car. Collectors looking at investments aren't looking at S54 swapped, Techno Violet cars. I couldn't see his car increasing in collector value anytime soon.

I hear ya. I've always loved the E30 M3, but starting out as a non-M3 owner, and choosing to build my first E30 with a swap over going with a stock E30 M3, made me view the car much differently. After getting my M3 I was pretty disappointed with how little wheel and tire could be fit under the massive looking stock fenders. Also, finding certain M3 specific parts gets expensive, and can be a real PITA.

As much as I love the E30 M3, I've got plenty of other cars that I've wanted to build that will satisfy MY needs better. I guess I'm not as deserving of such a car from that perspective. I can't get married to metal at the end of the day, cars come and go, but business opportunities and smart finanacial investments will bring me more success.

That being said, if I had finished my M3 as planned, it would've been one of the nicest, most unique M3s around.

You have a good point there, my car was not meant for a purist collector.

However, my car would've appealed to a much larger market and I had already planned to sell it before the end of the year, to make the S54 swap still very relevant and costly. My car was the complete package, and as you saw Toons, it was a blast to drive. I've been dealing with high dollar auto enthusiasts lately, and I could've easily sold it for what I got from Frank if I held out for one of the Shift S3ctor guys. Everyone loved my car, including me, it would've been 10x better than any stock E30 M3.

I'm not a purist, I'm a performance enthusiast. The E30 M3 in stock or close to stock form is very boring from a driver's perspective compared to the way my car was set-up. I realized this after driving my car and Chris Castro's similarly set-up S14 M3 on the track. Those that bitch and complain about the extra weight of a 24v engine up front, have never driven one with a properly set-up suspension. My car was more neutral in many respects that Chris Castro's S14 powered M3 at Streets of Willow and around town. We both had identical suspension set-ups, except I had 550# front/600# rear spring rates, versus his 450# front/550# rear.

hrmm, not sure if i'm feeling the look of the front CSL bumper with the Carbon fiber splitters being painted body color on the LSB.

I think it's the Laguna Seca Blue not so much the bumper, Laguna Seca Blue is a very polarizing love or hate it color, I'd take it over Phoenix Yellow but definitely other color's I'd prefer.
