You should have just backed off the trottle, I bet your are panic dumping the clutch witch is common for a beginner. Panic dumping is when the clutch first starts to engage you dump it. It should be a slow steady release all the way through without touching over 2k rpm.

Glad to hear you're getting the hang of it! Our cars are easy to learn in with the hydraulic clutch and all. I learned in a car with a cable clutch, it was like stepping on a rock by comparison. Just steer clear of gridlock traffic until you've got everything down. The riverdance gets old after a while.
I've never ground a gear in 10+ years. How are you grinding gears?- Josh

yeah i purposely park far away in parking lots so i can pull forward in a space or take different roads to avoid hills now, but i feel like I AM DRIVING the car now, not riding in it!
