you have to remember that the mechanic isnt a used car salesman or a junkyard. if he pays one of his people (including his time) to fix it, he has to recoup that money. also, parting out the car would be too time consuming to make sense.
$100 is a fair offer coming from someone who doesnt really want the car to begin with. Besides, if OP is taking it to a mechanic, then the continued cost of maitnence probably isnt worth it. the only way i can affors my e30s is to do all the work myself.
