    $2000 mtech2 cabriolet on Craigslist

I went (with the money) to go see it today. I didn't end up buying it because I just don't have the space to take on a project of that magnitude. Don't get me wrong, it's totally worth 2k, but it's just not a complete steal that I couldn't pass up.

    Things right:
    Feels lIke a good suspension
    Steers nicely
    OK brakes
    Transmission (auto) shifts smoothly
    Mtech2 package
    Little rust
    Engine runs well
    Brand new alternator
    Clear title in sellers name

    Things wrong:
Both fenders aren't original. Probably front end collision at one point although everything looks straight now
It kissed something again. Radiator core support is pushed in
Mtech2 kit is cracked in multiple places. Doesn't sit right in the front
Ignition cylinder is bad. Seller wired in a bad looking push start. Could be cleaned up better.
    No headliner.
Top doesnt retract. Mechanism broken. Manually drops.
    Fogged plastic rear window
    Missing mtech2 door sills
Seats are trashed (currently has blue seats on decent condition but he does have the original interior.)
Coolant is low and looks like water
    Radio doesn't work
    Obc led is bad
    Missing 1 center cap
    Dent in hood
Dash is cracked, but not badly
I'm sure there's more once you start digging

I need to focus on getting a garage, but for someone with a bit more money, time, and space than me, this would be a decent project.

Sounds like a good deal considering what kits cost.

It's a good deal for someone looking for an mtech2 kit (free e30 parts car) or looking to a restore an mtech2 vert.

But it's not some crazy steal. It needs work. It needs easily another 5k worth of work. I have too many projects to take another one. I thought it would be in better condition. The ignition cylinder wiring being messed with really made me say nah, not worth it to me. Also, I forgot the roof leaks (it was raining) in the front corner onto your knee, like almost all e30 verts do, coupled with the fact that I can see through the back corners (again, like all e30 verts) made me realize how little I wanted a vert. That said, if the interior was nice and the ignition switch was not fucked with I would have picked it up.

So from what I've gathered, the appearance package has the centers of the basketweaves painted, regular seats (no m-tech fabric), and regular sills (no m-tech sills) on a convertible with a factory m-tech 2 body kit. Is that about right? Did they make full m-tech 2 verts?

Appearence pack cars are either white or diamond black. The wheel centers are painted the colour of the car and the wheels are 14". The interior is leather in the colour of the car, and the back seat center bolster is stitched like the m3 rear seat.

White with white leather and wheels or black with black leather and wheels. Both had the M technic body kit. Badged as 325i.

Full M technics are badged "BMW M Technic." This thread has more info..

I'm guessing he did some research on the rarity and is trying to get top dollar. Isn't the seller on R3v? I think I've seen that pic posted before. Anyway, here are the prod numbers for these...total of 695 White/white were produced in 91-92.

                            SickFinga provided these production numbers...

                            Sterling Silver Metallic (244) -18

                            Automatic

                            Brilliant Red (30 - 43

total of 695 White/white were produced in 91-92. 402 were Automatic 92's. I wonder where he got 218 from.

Maybe there were 218 real mtech2 convertibles?

I think it's hilarious how no one bought it at $2000. He reposted it to $4500. Now he has it listed at $3000, but in the ad it says $2500. But the price is not negotiable! Lol.

It's going to keep sitting. He said he bought it at auction. I'm assuming he got it for less than a grand.
