Let's go from Marshall then. I'll start a new thread so everyone can see it.

Anyone have any thoughts on these bikes? Why doesn't it have disc brakes?

Great bikes. Long tradition of racing and Colorado focused. The new carbon AS-R5 is literally a bike that can do anything and weight under 25lbs. My wife used to race for Co-Motion (a Yeti sponsored team) and one of my good friend's races for them.

Thats an old AS-R, probably why it has V-brakes. You could get a better bike used FS bike for $1300. The rest of the components are really aged. The technology on newer, but less high market bikes blows that stuff out of the water and will be in the same price range.

Thanks for the quick info. We have been looking constantly for a bike for my wife. Nothing seems to be showing up.

Is she looking for a medium FS? I'll shake a few trees...

Medium FS or small 29er. She's not sure she can ride the medium 29er. Once I get flat pedals tomorrow she is going to try it out.

Your size stays the same regardless of tire size. My wife has a medium 29er she is welcome to give a whirl. I would get her sized and go with that regardless of wheel size.

I'm not sure if it was the geometry but it was the handle bar reach that was supposed to be different. She has ridden a few medium 26er full suspensions as rentals but the 29ers she demoed were all smalls and fit great. Granted she didn't try a 29er medium.

Forgot to comment. The cheaper the better but we want decent entry level bikes. Take x-caliber, stumpjumper comp, etc....that level or better. If you have any leads let us know, we are ready to buy asap.

I might be modelling a bicycle with front/rear suspension in my mod sim class. Any of you engineers have any input? would a two spring system be too complex to model?

No one makes this car anymore. The government won't allow them, normal people won't buy them. So it's up to us: the freaks, the weirdos, the informed. To buy them, to appreciate them, and most importantly, to drive them.

Nah, its not bad. Spring mass damper system is pretty much the basis for everything.

Just realize that you have spring rate and damping in the tire and in the seat too, and if yoh want to get really complex, the springs dont act normal to bumps in the ground. Id ignore that though unt you have a good basic model, then complicate it.

                          What program are you using?

The impact forces are the most difficult. But a basic model is pretty easy unless you go heavy into the damping factors.

Thanks guys, my teacher doesn't specify what he wants for this project just that he wants a model so that is what we decided on, I am not sure how complex he wants. We will use matlab though and bond graphs/ block diagrams, Ill make a new thread if I need some help...

Does anyone have info on setting up a Fox F80 fork correctly? Apparently I can adjust the air pressure in it.

Mountain bikes are so weird with their shocks and fancy brakes. Owning a road bike is so easy.
