I've been on vacation and just spotted this thread... and looks like I'm behind on providing info...

Nevertheless, in short, yes, FSAE experience and leadership does help.
But as it's been pointed out do get yourself into the program you see fit.

I will reread this thead and expand on any questions that you (Lambo) have.

For the record, I'm a Mechanical Engineer by degree but did all the electrical wiring / design for the proposed FSAE 2008 platform.

I'm no engineer, and i've never been to a 4 year college, but I can see in your first post that it sounds like this new environment is overwhelming to you, either geographically or workload wise.

Like everybody else said, stick it out a little longer and the place will grow on you.

Well. It's been almost exactly a year since I initially posted this. And I just read through it again because I am getting the urge to transfer back......

I have been talking to a few people about this again and I feel if I'm getting these same urges again after a year then it means I should probably just transfer.

It feels like transferring after sophomore year is a little bit late, but I don't feel like I have developed any sort of relationships with any teachers, nor do I feel like I am going to. I have kept my grades up so that shouldn't be an issue there.

I am planning on emailing someone at both CSU and Mines to try and get some more insight on the process of transferring and maybe a bit more information about their ME programs.

Ha most of us on this forum seem to be MEs.

If you want any advice I can give, feel free to PM me, but I'd agree that if you keep thinking about it it probably means it would be a good idea. Emailing the admissions folks is a good idea, as would emailing the department admin person. Good luck in whatever you decide!

Yea I figured a lot of people here were but I meant I could get him in contact with current students here at mines so he can talk to them about since they're in it right now.

Definitely go with your gut feeling. It's sometimes the most basic choice.

Not necessarily; if the grades are above par, it show you've stuck in a good year, but noticed it's not the right fit for you.
Or that it shows you've honed in on your academic choice and found a more suitable program that fits your needs.

If you haven't already looked up the staff for CSU, here's a good place to start:

FWIW I transferred after my junior year to CU. Sure, I had to relearn the campus, staff, and students, but it worked out just fine in the end. I wouldn't put too much thought into that. Go with your gut and transfer.

If you seriously plan on transferring, confirm that your new school will accept your credit at your current school. I would also recommend going to a ABET college as getting your FE, and PE is easier with the proper college credentials.

If you go to a school that doesnt except your credit your basically wasting a semester and a half a years salary :D <-- that got me motivated real quick

That is definitely my main concern as of right now and is probably going to be the reason why I won't transfer to Mines. I will still double check with both schools admissions offices to get a definitive answer, but I'm pretty confident that the only credits that will be dropped at CSU are the ones I obtained via AP Literature and AP European History.

You have three fantastic engineering schools within 60 miles of you (CSM, CSU, and CU), not sure what the YVR competition is like at all though. Go to all three and shop around, it won't cost you more than a tank of gas.
