And yes thanks OP for making the thread, really like it. and all the info here.
It isnt hard to get into if you were an above average student at your current hs, sticking with it is the key cause classes are brutal. Getting in is the easy part but the classes themselves are on a whole different level compared to hs. So far i love it though, its a smaller school for sure so you may not get the same college experience as other bigger schools, but the return if you you graduate is much higher. Id Suggest coming for a visit, getting a tour around youll get to see a little of what campus is like, (its usually pretty died, especially on weekends you wont find a single person out side i had to drag people out of their rooms to get them to do something) Alot of time IS spent doing hw but youll learn to manage your time and have a social life out side of class.

So all in all i wouldnt change my choice of school (i was looking for a smaller school ideally, Our largest class room is like >200 and thatll be your general lectures, like chem, phys..) Mines is great you wont go a day with out seeing at least one person you know.

if you have any more specific question feel free to ask, im a Sophomore (junior credit wise) Petroleum Major

Mines isn't terribly difficult to get into, if you're not an academic failure like myself.

Red Rocks CC is in lakewood and has a solid articulation agreement with Mines that states if you do hold a 2.75 college GPA, complete a certain amount of classes, you will almost be guaranteed admission to Mines with all credits (that are listed) transferable.

I currently go to red rocks, biggest class has been twenty something, and the tuition is much much cheaper. Some of our classes are actually a little bit harder than mines due to the articulation agreement, since red rocks does not want to lose the agreement. the agreement basically stipulates that csm can also mandate the course material at red rocks for the transferrable classes.

My recommendation is to get caught up at red rocks on math if you can. You can use the easier math classes to boost your GPA. Red Rocks also has online options, if you think you have the discipline to do it. I'd contact the admissions department at mines and maybe red rocks to start a tour. You can start taking classes at red rocks spring semester, mines would require you to wait for fall.

I had a freind who was doing this taking classes as RR and then hed have a couple classes on mines campus. He liked it so that is an option.

Math is pretty much the key here if you dont have any calculus back groud it is going to be pretty tough, unless if your good with math and pick up quick i took calc bc in hs so it was a little easier and i had seen the stuff before, but still wasnt a walk in the park. If you have no calc back ground i think they make you take other classes at RR before you can come into mines i dont think they offer anything below calc 1... But im not 100% sure. No weekend tours, i believe its only Tuesdays and Thursdays (??) depending on the day and time you come up I could probably show you around also...

Boosting your gpa at RR is a great idea and i do hear the math there is easier and transfers directly because of the relation between the schools.

You really should go into Mechanical Engineering and then try to get into the automotive industry if that's your thing. An "Automotive Engineering" field would be too limiting.

And yes, Engineering is hard work. That is why the pay is above average.

exactly. Mechanical engineering leaves you with limitless possibilities, which include automotive. You may realize that by the end of a 4-6 year stint in school, you want to do something totally different with engineering.

speaking of school, I have to go back to school. Everyone else around me at work has masters and PhDs in aerospace and other stuff, I am the only lowly BS.

                        This is very true.

I wanted to do automotive, and managed to snag an internship with BMW. I don't want to do automotive anymore. Not because BMW is a bad company to work for, but rather you are FAR more likely to be designing and analyzing the NVH of the new 550iTTxd GT's door handle mechanism than designing twin turbo hydrogen powered racecars.

Specialize as broadly as possible, then you can get a job doing damn near anything you want.

I second the idea of shopping around. CU, CSU, and CSM all have their particular strengths and weaknesses, and in many senses their strong/weak departments dovetail. Find the school that is right for you, not what we Arbiters Of All That Is Knowledge say is the best school.

I'm gonna bump this with another question...

I'm heading back to CO for winter break and I plan on going up to Ft. Collins to check some stuff out and figure out a few things. One of those things I'd like to figure out ASAP is housing.

So, does anyone who goes to CSU and/or lives in Ft. Collins have suggestions of places I should check out?

All I'm looking for is something off campus, close to campus and affordable. Other amenities I can figure out when I'm checking them out. I already started a small search online and I'll compile all my options...just looking for some input.

                          Thanks!

I know Ben is up there right now, but he's almost never on the board anymore. Erik and Chris also alums/current students and should be able to help you out....I can't be of much help there.

                            Good luck!
