m20 suck my balls
I had an b27, b25, drove an M50 and have an M30 now.
b27 (w/ bav auto chip): Nice but I'd rather have the b25, felt alittle more pull but seemed to leave a lot to desire
b25: I think out of all of them (I haven't had much experience w/ my M30 yet), this was the one that was most enjoyable to drive, don't know why though, it was fast"er" when you wanted it to be. Felt like it pulled very well. It was a fully stock car..other then the useless CAI which sounded cool
M50: it was fast but it wasn't a stock car and I didn't enjoy driving it. It was fast, don't get me wrong, but didn't seem like the torque was there, the pull happened in a much higher RPM level. The car had a ton of work done to it but seemed to leave me asking what he spent so much money on. (hope that makes sense)
M30: Its heavier but its got massive torque (to me) compare to all 3 above and pulls nicely. I've driven it up and down a small street and it was quit and enjoyable for that 1/2 mile like the b25.=insta-pull
Sorry I don't have a chipped b27 car for your to drive (well its sitting behind my moms garage) but I'm in Ohio.
I comply disagree with you on m30 swaps. They are heavy; any more power you get out of them is a wash because of the extra weight. Doing a m50tu swap will add an addition 30something hp over a stock m20 w/out any mods. On top of that m5x are just a way way way better motor over the m20/30. First off no tbelt(yes I know m30's don have tbelts ja) the #1 reason why they suck, (also pleas note m20 are the only t belt motor bmw has mass produced (iirc) and have they produced any since ? Cough *mistake* cough) valve adjustments #2 reason why they suck, hard start issues #3 reason why they suck, no distributor, v belts, crappie iac systems, cold start injectors (what are we vw’s now?), to many coolant hose's, restrictive intake/ exhaust manifolds, oil leaks (don’t even get me started, have you ever seen a m20 not leak like a fat chick on a hot day????) how much time do you have I can go on and on and on. Last and most important over my hatred of the m20, to be honest the way things are going with the pro3 market m5x are getting CHEAP when compared to m20's. I personally will never own a m20/30 pwr car ever again (ix included) and anyone who builds a m20 from the ground up for should have their heads checked. People are making 500+ hp on headgasket w/studs turbo kits combos that are driven every day….then blown up and replaced in a weekend. show me a m20 that does that and I will show you 10 m/s5x cars that can do if for half if not less $. Bottom line m20 are gutless turds and they are crap, let the pro3 crowd have them.
My piece of advice if you are looking for more power for your daily, save your money keep it all stock then do a m50 swap. People have got them running for $1500 if you can turn a wrench and now how type “bmw parts” on cl
but then again I am a m20/30 racist and I need to take a sensitivity class for it
if you where closer I would show you the total awesomeness of a swapped e30 with a few bolt on's that is driven every day and twice on Sunday

That's a harsh review of the M20. Yes, they might leave a lot to be desired and have some issues, but for their age they aren't too bad. Plus they will reliably run for many more miles than most engines will...and I think they have a very nice exhaust note. ;)Comment

on that note I got about $48 a ton and each short block is/was about 150 lbs so by my math umm .02 cents

I'm really furious at this m20b27. My old 93 honda accord with just suspension was more fun to drive on some back roads around here.Originally posted by z31maniacI just hate everyone.

For that very reason... I'm hoping to find one cheap. And then be half a second behind an m50 in a drag race but be WAY more fun then an m20b27.

and its going to a lot more that a second behind try about 90mins (the time it takes for your tbelt to slip a tooth, bend 3 valves, call aaa, get a tow back home, and then to realize what just happend the hate your self for wasted the money on a pos motor"
if you are going to do any thing save your money drive the honda a do a m50 swap.
PS pm me then I will build you a harnessComment

are you kidding me!!! you are going to wast all your time and money on that pos motor? did you even read my first hate post??? m50 swaps are cheap and well worth the "little" more money it cost

There are tons of m20s out there on the road still today. But, I do see your point. Every time I look through m50 swaps they look like they will add up really quickly over what I want to spend. (under 1000) I know it's possible to do though. Hmmmm... I guess I'll just run this pos motor longer.Originally posted by z31maniacI just hate everyone.
