    Talk to me about Bremerton.

I'm starting to look at places up in the PNW. I don't have any one place in mind.

What's your opinion? Is there a "bad" area and a "good" area? Is it full of idiots? Will my e30 like it there? And am I going to have to go into Seattle just to find some decent punany?

    Just your basic questions.

Ok so Bremerton is where I reside. It's a nice place to live, and an hour ferry ride to Seattle. The largest shipyard on the west coast is right downtown. It's a nice place to work - government employed, easy commute, nice city. My pops makes $100k there after doing 20 years in the Navy. The town is roughly 37,000 people and is very nice. It is across the sound so almost any way you go West is a hiking mecca.

The weather is tolerable, not humid at all in the Summers and predictable rainfall. No snow, maybe 10 inches a year if we are lucky.

I'd recommend living here, over the other states I have been (California, Illinois, Alaksa, Missouri, Michigan)

Nice little area, George. You'd probably enjoy it. It's not close to much besides itself though. And the hour ferry ride is kind of a pain if you're trying to get into Seattle or to Sea-Tac (leaving ~2 hours before you have to be at the airport ~2 hours before your flight leaves...)

Not the cheapest place in town, but that shouldn't matter for a baller like yourself.

Kitsap peninsula is nice if you an outdoorsy person, that way you are midway between the olympic peninsula, and seattle. If you are not an outdoorsy person, def seattle area is where you want to be. Also, don't live in bremerton. We don't have any real ghettos, but bremerton is as ghetto as we have.

I just moved out of Bremerton after retiring from the Navy, now I'm on the Seattle side of the sound.

On the plus side, things in Bremerton were cheaper, especially housing. Traffic wasn't as bad.

I would go weeks there without seeing another e30 and the throngs of Chevy Cavaliers and Kias clearly had zero idea what my car was and didn't care.

On the Seattle side, I see 1 or 2 other e30s on my commute daily and a handful of older 5 series or 7 series. I get to flash my lights with afecionados frequently.

All of my Craigslist stuff was in Seattle which really made it inconvenient.

Bremerton has the MaxRPM dyno facitility and the Bremerton Motorsports park, where everyone in Seattle goes for high performance driving events.

The frequent ferry rides to Seattle got old quick. There wasn't much to do in Bremerton.

If I had to move to Bremerton I'd stick with the nicer towns to the North such as Silverdale or Poulsbo. Bremerton itself isn't that great.

I would take Issaquah or Renton over Bremerton anytime.

You'll need to say more about what you are looking for me to recommend anything.

If you really like Bremerton, I have a great house for sale near the Brownsville Marina!

So yeah I agree with all the above too. I hate how Kitsap has nothing worthwhile in craigslist.

Yea, I should have given more info. First some questions and follow ups.

It is right around an hour? And with a car it about $25 round trip? 37,000 is bigger than I thought it was. Should be a few good hoes in there.

I use to live in Santa Barbara, and I really liked it because there was great people there, but you'd still have LA not too far away if you wanted the city fun. I'm by no means a outdoor kind of guy - or at least I didn't use to be, so I can't really say that I am now. But I excersice about 40 mins a day - outside. The weather up there might move that indoors?

I'm far from a baller these days. It's been a ruff year.

Well, I'm looking at the low end of the market right now. I'm getting close to having a down payment (I'm aiming for around new years.). I'm trying to get things moving before the housing market picks up again. But it seems like the Seattle market fell much later than everyone else, so I'm hoping I still have time. Thoughts?

I really like the area, but one of the problems is that it's SO spread out, and it's really hard to get a feel for the different areas until you're already living there. Where as LA it's easier I think.

Anyways. I work 95% at home. I need to be near Seattle, but I don't think I need to be in Seattle. I could only afford to rent in Seattle. I'd rather buy a starter home in this down market, with low property taxes, and just throw cash into it for the next 5 years. Then, parlay that into a condo or something closer. I don't know.

There is part of me that wants to rent something close to downtown and have all the fun that the nightlife can offer. But...

I'm single. Mid- 30 something. But I act like I'm about 25, I'd say. No kids. Not married. No plans to for a while. I'm looking forward to be near the water again. I really want to start sailing again. I was one a team in Santa Barbara - so that will be kicks ass.

I'm also going to look at Tacoma, and south of Seattle.

Could you give a short description of these different places - just something short. I'm just looking to get the vibe for the different areas.

                          Issaquah
                          Renton
                          poulsbo
                          silverdale

You guys are being super helpful. Thank you so much!

                              i live in poulsbo.

its full of old people, hicks, and cops with too much time on their hands.

theres a lot of fun little backroads. but you have to know which ones the popo doesnt watch.

nice area, its just that there is nothing to do.

if you mostly keep to yourself, and spend the majority of your free time at home, its a great place to live.

if you are gonna do kitsap do silverdale at least, thats kind of where the hub is i'd say. youll be closer to the mall, and to the bremerton motorsports park.
