What finally did the engine in? I want to like tear down a M42 now & rebuild it again in the garage.

Keep in mind there is much exaggerated and bad info on the forums concerning the m42. Some examples would be that the timing gears only last 100k, or that there is a 'mess' under the intake.

Yeah the "mess" thing seems over-played, but I still want to do what we discussed at least to the vacuum lines. ***Here's your reminder about part #'s btw Ryann*** Also the Res on the radiator was empty so I need to get some BMW coolant. Do I go half and half with non-tap water?

Not did it in.......oil pump gears were worn down so it didn't have healthy oil pressure for the impending turbo

I knew that my Dad had one of those new (back then having a BMW actually meant that you were a driver and car guy, not just someone with money to burn) and it was nothing but trouble. Anyway, I sent him the link to it, he responded: At first I thought it was my old car, since I sold mine to a guy in Seattle, but mine wasn’t air conditioned. Visually identical.

Definitely pretty, but also pretty high on his "thank God I sold that" list.
