Oh, also the starter is getting power I grounded my test light and poked the red wire... it lit up (this was with the pins jumped)

You need to check for power at the other big terminal when the key is in the start position. The big red cable always has juice.

Have you tried smacking it with a hammer yet?

I still stand behind my neutral safety switch theory. Good idea to check all your grounds and relays also.

Going to go whack it hard right meow.

So what is the other big terminal? Show me in this picture?

If the red wire always has juice.. than why is it that the motor isnt constantly turning??

              Start with the main relay.

Also, I think Ryann was referring to the ground as the "other big terminal."

Oh I didn't see that it doesn't crank after you tried the second time.

Is there a fuse for the starter?

The big lug always has power, because it is connected directly to the battery. the reason it doesn't always stay on, is because of how the solinoid works. If you pulled it apart, you would a flat, copper disk behind the two large lugs. Then you would see a coil that is used to engage that disc. This coil is energized by the two smaller terminals. An old trick to test your solinoid is to short the large positive from the battery to the positive side of the coil. This will engage the solinoid and the starter motor.

Just watched this video about twice... know all the ins and outs now.

So what happens I guess when you turn the key? The big wire has power, but how does it complete the circuit to make the solenoid fire and turn the starter motor?

Look closely at this pic. Until the solenoid is engage power won't flow to stator.

True. But I want to get my car fixed. It was 6:30 when the decision was made... I dont have anything else to do. Jeeze just put on two jackets and do it... not that hard. I already have the extension cord out... just gotta grab the work light.

Hanging out with Josh, Matt and Victor. I'm changing out my blower motor and watching Josh do wiring for his swap. Life's good.

But from a parents view point letting your child go out and work underneath a car in the wet and cold while its dark out isn't a good idea.
