Oh, also the starter is getting power I grounded my test light and poked the red wire... it lit up (this was with the pins jumped)

The big lug always has power, because it is connected directly to the battery. the reason it doesn't always stay on, is because of how the solinoid works. If you pulled it apart, you would a flat, copper disk behind the two large lugs. Then you would see a coil that is used to engage that disc. This coil is energized by the two smaller terminals. An old trick to test your solinoid is to short the large positive from the battery to the positive side of the coil. This will engage the solinoid and the starter motor.1991 325i MT2 Touring (JDM bro)
