Ok, thanks for clearing that up. Sounds like a dead motor or maybe an issue with the wiring. I'd pop the cover off and make sure you're getting power to the fan. If you are, you can assume that it's dead, but they don't usually just die with no signs of warning...

Mine died a few years ago at random, but usually it's the resistor, which we did switch out.

Do you know where the contacts are to run a multimeter against? Or where would you test it?

Yeah, it is quite common for the resistor to go out (they are nearing 25+ years old,) but when the motor is going out, you can usually hear the bushings start to squeal.

On the actual fan motor itself, there are two wires leading off it. One of them will be brown (ground, obviously, I forget the color for the hot wire.) Use your DMM and see how much power is going to it. If there isn't power going to it, well, then you know your issue.

Well the resistor came out of my car years ago. I thought that the resistor was dead, switched it, things were still dead, got a new blower motor, and things worked. So I'm pretty sure that my motor was dead all along and that the resistor was actually ok. So that's what we're banking on now.

Yeah, I was trying to remember what color the hot wire was but drew a blank on it (which is why I offered up which one was the ground, but it's pretty self explanatory.)

I would definitely have checked all the solders on the resistor before you installed it, but it's not a big deal. I went through a similar issue last winter where my motor bushings were fucked and squealed like mad and one of the solders broke off on my resistor, so the fan would only come on when on highest speed (four.)

I'd look to that for being a possible issue, but if you say it's good, then check everything else.

Cliff notes version = the blower started to intermittently start to not work, when it did work it would switch to different fan levels (1-4) with no problems. then all of a sudden it doesn't work :/ I checked the fuses and noticed one was blown. changed it and vuala, All is well..... until later that night, no blower again. Idk. Joel and I tryed to swap one of his old blower switches, then the resistor without any change. I suppose its time to check for power to the motor (thanks Austin). I believe Brown in typically the ground, ill check for pwr to the motor ( the wires are accessible). no heat in the rainy cold winter sucks, hopefully i can get to the bottom of this soon :)

I hear that. I went through the same issue, myself, last winter. Hopefully you figure it out. It definitely sounds like a resistor or a short in the wiring, to me. Hopefully you figure it out promptly!
