I had to follow up on this and say that a super clean purple E46 M3 gave me a thumbs up around the Seattle center today. I think it was because I blew by him as he sat in a long line of cars on 5th ave N before we both turning left onto Roy at considerable speed. It had nothing to do with my car being pretty ;)

That condescending look you get when they find out you're NOT a bmwcca member
Also, the craigslist kids who use the word "rare" to describe the e30 they're trying to sellComment

I've never come across an E46 driver who didnt rev his engine or try to race me when I'm in my other car. It's really annoying and douche-tastic.
The douchiest thing a BMW owner can do is ignore other enthusiasts, regardless of what make their car is.sigpicComment

And one of my favorites, put forth a large insurance policy so that venues can be rented. I believe the cost to rent out Maryhill isn't all that much, but you have to bring a multi-million dollar insurance policy in case you damage the grounds. Individuals can't get that (and certainly don't want to maintain it) but BMW CCA can and does.
For an organization that caters to an above average costing car, their annual fee is small and every event I've been to has welcomed my old ugly looking jalop of a car.

FWIW, I registered for the CCA with the sole purpose of my registration being Maryhill (and didn't even go this year, LOL.)
However, after attending a few events, it's a nice group of guys locally, and while not all of their events cater to the older chassis, there are a lot of informative and interesting topics discussed at each event. I think it's safe to say that I will probably renew my membership next year.
