    300whp S52?

    I hate to be that kid who posts the noob ass questions like this, but me and a friend were discussing this earlier and weren't sure. He thought it was possible, but I wasn't sure.

    Is it possible to get 300whp out of an S52 with "basic" bolt ons and some porting? The plan is to rebuild my buddies S52 for my E30. Not gonna mess with the bottom end, just get new bearings and seals and have it cleaned, then rebuild the head, run stock valvetrain aside from some porting, super tech valvesprings, and cams. Then have an M50 manifold, 24# injectors, 3.5in MAF, KAMotors intake, headers/full exhaust, a tune for 93 octane and under drive pullies.

    Is 300whp an achievable goal without major work? What kind of numbers would this set up most likely bring? I'm not looking to go FI. Also, out of curiosity, does anyone make an S52 ITB kit?

    Thanks

        I didn't think so, I figured that'd be around 240whp (or 275 crank) it's a healthy motor (dynoed out to 208whp with just a lightened flywheel), and that's after 170k miles.

          Throw some super nasty cams in there and you may get closer.

            you will get reasonably close if you know what youre doing, the only difference between a built bottom end vs a fresh one in terms of power is basically the compression. sure things will be a little lighter reciprocating wise which also might show a few hp on a dyno but its not going to be massive.

            saw an allmotor 290whp S52 dyno just last week with OEM type manifold, albeit on Dynojet STD correction. you will needs cams that hurt that bottom end to make the numbers get close

                  You can pick up a used charger for the price of a good set of cams and see 300. I know you said you wernt looking for FI but something to think about.

                    330hp. Metric mechanic motor. Deff a fully built AF motor tho
                    = Heidi 1988 325 -> 335i. 7200rpm built M30

                      MM tends to inflate their hp claims, but even if it did make 330hp (which I presume is at the crank) it would cost like $20,000. you could have just bought an S54.

                        Yes, BMW CCA IP engines put down around 280 to 295 whp. The recipe is basically the same. It's mostly stock parts, stock induction, efficient headers, and big cams. I do not believe the IP class allows for much machining to be done, or have a non-stock intake manifold.

                        I bet if you did some intake tract optimization that you could get that extra power and then some.

                          Was talking to a buddy about picking up a used kit and running a low boost application.

                            The low boost SC kits we install/tune churn out 300-330whp. 300whp NA is a tough feat but can be done if you have deep pockets and dont mind it coming apart after a few thousand miles...
