    autozone half shafts????

Are the autozone half shafts worth a damn? They're only $60 plus a $75 core charge...

    #2
Sure beats $250 each! What kind of warranty do they have? They sound like a good alternative.

I heard that they are too short or something like that after searching on e30tech and here. Check the autozone reviews

Keep in mind that that warranty (and you WILL need it) does not cover labor and you will lose your wheel bearings every time you change out the half shafts. Do the math

how do you loose the wheel bearings?
you mean when the half shafts grenades it ripes out the bearing as well and it needs to be replaced?

Sometimes...the inner bearing race pulls out with the axle when you remove it. Seems to happen when removing the shaft from a bad bearing. Perhaps, they fuse together with the excessive heat cause by the friction. I figured the race could be knocked back in if needed...perhaps not?

My understanding is that when you swap the half shafts you do the bearings since they are highly unlikely to survive. More importantly there are very few happy endings with most rebuilt axles.

Thanks guys. I don't think I'm going to go with cheap remans from a place like autozone. I'm just trying to decide whether I should buy all new boot kits, just spend the money on bmw shafts or oem replacement shafts? what are your opinions?

                  thanks

                    I would do BMW/OEM.

Don't waste your time with a boot kit and rebuild. It's a bitch to repack all the grease and get the little balls back in there, plus there's likely pitting in the races.

The napa ones are better quality than the advanced auto/autozone ones.

Changed my axles bearings were fine....

I've had good luck with feq axles, holding up to 330whp drift car, 100$ each.

I'm assuming feq = First Equipment Quality?

Yep, nothing broken and no noises this season so far. Changed them at the beginning of the year, car gets the piss beat out of it.

Also no issues with fitment, was just like oem

I understand that some oes axles are different from the originals as well. The splines are slightly different and they use. 12 pt nut instead of a 6. Almost as if they are shared with another car.
