I found a completely stock 1990 325i coupe a couple hours from home this week. It happens to be calypsorot, the same color of a convertible that I owned previously. Owner didn't know what he had and was bombarded with interest from the local e30 community. For $1,800 I picked up my newest project today! It made the 2-hour drive without overheating or failing on I-5...that is success. It needs a deep cleaning now. Photos show the filth.
Known issues:
My Plans:
- Keep the car forever
- Stromung catback exhaust
- GC/koni coilover kit (maaaaaaybe springs like H&R Race)
- Tan sport seats
- 16" wheels - currently thinking Corsa GT steelies or Borbet Type T
- Fix all of the odds and ends to clean it up a bit.
- One day I will repaint it. Deciding between the stock Calypso...or going BRITISH RACING GREEN!
After it's first wash
Known issues:
- Driver's seat is terrible
- Small oil leak (will put on a lift in the coming weeks to diagnose)
- Odometer quit working at 187k (owner claims ~200k). I have records up to 2012 and it showed 175k.
- Sunroof works, but intermittent when closing.
- Auto door locks don't work
- Shift knob was homemade junk, so I threw it away today.
- Fenders had some "trim" that was attached with adhesive that I also tore off and threw away. It was not the chrome stuff.
- Clear coat is gone at the roof and trunk.
