Luis,
The rebuild of the transmission runs approximately $2500. It's not a simple turn around from your local transmission specialist.
We could not, and would not, sell a car with a bad 2nd gear syncro and possible bent shift forks (they are all aluminum in the G280) that you were planning to drive over 500 miles home. Which would be worse, driving a car that could leave you stranded 250 miles from home, or being notified in advance by us that we couldn't sell you the car?
If we'd sold you the car with a bad transmission, I'd wager we'd see angry posts about how we "sold you a false bill of goods" or "mis-lead" you when you're stuck on the side of the highway 250 miles from home. As others have posted, we (VSR) take our reputation very seriously, and won't risk our reputation just to make a sale.
We don't sell and won't sell hack-job cars, so sticking a Non-M5 transmission in the car is not an option.
We have not contacted you because there has been no resolution on to what we plan to do with the car/driveline at this time. It is race season, with multiple cars that need to be on-track within the next 2 weeks.
The car has been put on the back-burner until we can identify what we plan to do. This is the same reason the status hasn't changed in this thread or on our website. We have not performed a compression or leak-down test yet on the car, so we're not withholding information, there isn't any data to share in that respect yet.

Chris,
I fully understand that you guys have a business to run. At the same time since we had engaged in a business transaction & I was expecting some type of communication from your end regarding to it as just as Mario had been doing at the beginning of it.
I do not expect you to put your business on hold for this car but I don't think that it's too much to ask that you take a minute or two to make a quick phone call to let me know the status of our transaction. This isn't only based only on my personal expectations but on what Mario had told me during our last conversation. It basically went from all to nothing.
I'm fully aware of your reputation & that's why I had started buying & sourcing parts for a Euro bumpers / headlights / valance conversion & was planning to have you guys do it (I did send you emails about it remember?).
Anyway, that's all I have to say.Comment

The final sale price that we had agreed on was higher than the advertised price as I was going to have them address most of the issues that they had described to me. These guys probably know these cars almost better than anybody else so it made sense to me to have them do it.
The last time I spoke to the owner was when he told me that they had found out that tranny was bad & how he was not going to be able to sell me the car at the price we had agreed on since it needed to be rebuilt by someone else. It doesn't seem like they're interested in selling the car as-is so prolly they're probably going to rebuild the tranny, address some of the issues & ask a higher price as they have to recoup their newfound costs. How much higher is anybody's guess.Comment

That sounds fair.

this. a g265 is a common replacement in the e28 m5 and is widely considered to be a suitable alternative. a stroll through the previously sold car ads on vsr's own website turns up a number of modified and non-standard cars, so i don't get the purpose of this inflammatory language.

Once the car is repaired, Luis will still have the option to buy the car.
If you were familiar with E28 M5's you'd know that the G280 transmission is prone to shift fork problems by the nature their construction being aluminum and owners driving the car aggressively. 2nd & 4th gear are frequently bad in these transmissions.

Any modified or non-standard car on our website or previously sold would have those items disclosed, so I don't quite see what you're trying to insinuate here?
My point, if it wasn't clear, was that the car was offered and advertised as an original driveline M5. Simply throwing a non-original transmission into the car would not have been a professional or respectable thing to do, and is not how we elected resolve the issue.
Perhaps I mis-understood what people were trying to convey when discussing the G265 option??? It appeared to me that it was a case of "just throw the transmission in there" type of deal. That's not something we'd do for a gentleman flying in to drive a car over 500 miles home who has a young family. I'd like to think others would have the same type of courtesy in a similar situation?
Respectfully,

To be fair here, I must say that this shop actually has a very good reputation among the BMW community & that's why I had asked them to fix some of the issues that needed to be addressed on the car (plus other possible upgrades). Also based on my own initial dealings with them this is not something that I'd be concerned they would do. I just wanted to clarify this before it ends up spiriling out of control.Comment
