Uv coating is a sales tactic ( disclaimer: we use it too)
Doing a clear coat is the best way to protect your paint

but what is UV coating besides the obvious of protecting paint? I mean does factory paint have it too? always thought clear coat was the UV coating and not needed unless you are single stage paint. appreciate the honesty

uv protection is already built in to the binder of the paint for single stage paint, its not something that can be changed.
for base/clear the clear coat is the uv protection

so in other words if a shop tries to sell me an added uv coat ontop of a dual stage paint, I'm just throwing money away

                      Oliver,

Do you see any issues with painting an entire car with current bay area weather? It's getting chillier now and wasn't sure if it'll have an effect on curing process

dosnt matter, most shops have temp controled booths

but even post painting when the car is delivered to the customer, there are still curing procedures no? or is the paint ready to be abused after it leaves the booth?

also, with regard to painting plastic, is there a certain age/sun exposure plastics have to the point it will affect adhesion? I got myself a pair of factory non painted e30 mirrors but of course they have fade... as in the plastic isn't rich black but wearing grey in some areas

as long as you dont lean on the paint its ok to be driven a day after its painted.

when it comes to plastic it dosnt matter if its fadded you can spray it like that, if its cracking or becoming purous you have to primer it

House of Kolors Clear coat has more UV protectant within it as it has to. House of Kolor's develops paints that are easily faded (translucent candies, peralescent, etc) by the sun and as such they put more UV protectant within the clear. Just FYI...
