Zzyzx85 the new design is just to make it quieter. The stock system was too loud in my opinion for a vert. -
The stock Stromung was too loud for a cabriolet (vert) in my opinion. So they are working on a quieter version. Still throaty, just a few less decibels.Leave a comment:

maybe I missed the earlier message but what are we re-designing?
anyways, i'm still down for this group buy. I was going to ask them to include an extra set of flanges so I can resolve my single piece manifold-back exhaust at the local muffler shop lol.Last edited by Zzyzx85; 09-04-2025, 04:01 PM.Leave a comment:

I spoke with Scott @ Stromung. They are in their busy season and haven't had time to do the design work. Sometime in Mid-September, things quiet down and he will spend the time to create the system we want.Leave a comment:

Hopefully one is opened up soon, I'm interested in joining this group buy since I'm looking for a exhaust for my 318i!Leave a comment:

I'll echo this. I was part of a 2023 or 2024 group buy and just got around to installing it on my sedan with a stock engine and cat. The car is automatic.Belatedly but I got one of these in the 2021 group buy period - with the autotragic I used to have it was kind of droney at a lot of typical street and highway RPMs, but with the 5-speed swap done it's much, MUCH more enjoyable overall, and sounds great when you get your foot on it. It's a smidge loud at idle outside the car for my tastes because I don't like annoying my neighbors when warming her up or coming home late, but I have a more low-key preference in that regard than most so I imagine for most people on r3v it's in a great sweet spot. If you can get your mitts on one, they're a nice upgrade if your old one is on the way out like mine was. I can't say I've noticed any power gain in the butt dyno in the time I've had it - I recall reading it allegedly gets you like 5-10hp-ish - but that wasn't really my goal with it and I'm sure somebody with a hopped up motor that isn't stock like mine would get something out of it.
Good luck with the next round if it happens! I'm content with mine.
It sounds great at idle and reving it up while sitting still. A little louder than I expected, but a really good deep tone and no rasp. I was a little disappointed on the first drive because it's just sort of loud and droney. That being said, it was 98 and humid out, so I was sweating buckets and was generally in a pissy mood. I was also taking used oil to recycle, so I was driving super carefully and the RPMs weren't changing much. I got on it a few times once the oil was gone and it sounded really good at WOT with changes in RPM. But if I'm just driving around the city at low speeds, or cruising on the highway, the drone might get to me.
I'll rock it for a while to see if it grows on me. If not, I'll go back to my rusted stock exhaust until the car is manual swapped. I'm sure the constant RPM changes with a manual will sound better.
The car will be turbo'd in the next year or so, so this setup will be too restrictive. Scott said he can do a muffler with a single 3" inlet and a v-band. Perhaps I'll see if that counts for a group buy discount when I'm ready.
*******EDIT********
I realized that I had a massive exhaust leak coming from the driver's side connection to the cat. The passenger side uses a metal doughnut inside the connection. The driver's side uses a crushable doughnut around the connection. I've never had to replace the driver's side one before, so I didn't think about it. Now that it's on correctly, most of the drone is gone. It's way quieter putzing around town. It still has a deep tone and sounds a little louder than a rusted out stock muffler. WOT has a really great tone. I would definitely suggest this on an auto and expect it to sound even better on a manual car.Last edited by McGyver; 07-30-2025, 04:32 AM.Leave a comment:
