The one-piece and two-piece kits have the same specs, except for th rotors. Clearances are similar.

Great idea Lee! The only complaint I've had with my street kit was the little bit of vibration I felt in the rotors towards the end of a track day. Once everything was cooled down it went away but with S50 speeds I think I was pushing the temperature limits. Ducting is probably a good idea for my setup too. Depending on how my finances are looking I'll probably order a set of hats/rotors/pads from you for my new car. I want to go bigger but that will have to wait I think, damn economy...'89 325is S50 Track Montser

One obvious design improvement of the two-piece kit over a one-piece rotor that I completely forgot to mention is that whatever the supplier, except for the RacingBrake unit, they all come with the vent openings toward the outside, which keeps us from using air ducting, and many of the rotors come with slots all around the hat, which is claimed to be prone to cracking when abused. So, basically, if the car is street driven, you may keep a one-piece disc. But if the kit is to be tracked with a hi-po motor, then perhaps it is a good idea to upgrade rotors too. ;-)
Kurt did test the RB rotors to what I suspect was their limit, with very high friction race pads. Cracking did occure all around between the hat and the friction surface on the thinner area. Not a pretty sight. So, the RB discs are still great for light to medium duty. Not so for very heavy duty. Pardon my honesty for disclosing what some people will judge as a flaw, but that I 'd rather present as a practical test at the upper limit of duty. ;-)

The creeking is most likely brake dust trapped behid the stainless steel strips on which the pads slide. They have a slight spring effect and there's room between the strips and the caliper's body. Usually, a bit of compressed air will "do the job".Brake harder. Go faster. No shit.

Really wanted to go with this kit but damn, almost $1000 shipped w/ slotting puts it $150 over UUC's kit. Will wait until I see the finished product to make a decision. I don't really like UUC's bare aluminum hats. Are these going to be clear or color anodized?Comment

I'm pretty sure UUC uses a less desirable caliper as well. Lee's profit margins are much slimmer then UUCs so you know that whatever you're paying you're getting the best product you can for that money.'89 325is S50 Track Montser

BTW Massive's kit is $899.00usd (special) or $999.00usd (regular) w/pads - $100.00 cheaper than UUC's at retail price. $70usd less if you get the optional slotting.
And let's not forget that Wilwood's Dynapro can be used on other cars, not just one... Anyway, the good point with my remarks from last week is that after letting me know I had no expertise on brakes, Rob did listen and applied my remarks. No more hand painted calipers with exposed aluminum... ;-) Who said that competition wasn't good?Brake harder. Go faster. No shit.

Ok, decision made. Put me on the list for a set of hats/slotted rotors! I think I may need some pads too and perhaps I'll go with something more aggressive this time but that's a discussion for later.
Also, is gold anodizing an option? Red car you see...Last edited by Fidhle007; 03-30-2010, 06:37 PM.'89 325is S50 Track Montser
