they have to go to a specific pin. however, you can't really mess them up on your end, the 3 pin connector on the sensor is keyed and only fits one way.

Quick question: We have the E34 pan in our racecar, totally gutted out. Is there a simple way to wire up a low oil warning so we can have it light up inside the car? This would help if we miss checking the oil level or develop a leak during a stint to bring the car in before it is starved for oil. Nobody looks at our gauges anyway but I am planning a loud buzzer or horn inside the car wired to all the idiot lights, this is a nice to have not a need to have. I assume it's a simple switch when it gets below a certain level but have never investigated.

        Keep it slideways!!

Is it too late to get in on an adapter?

I read it on my phone - I can do the '86, but in order for it to be plug & play, you'll have to send me the C104 connector cut off of your original engine harness. Also, you will still have to run the VSS signal from the cluster because the 86' doesn't have that signal. the adapter would come with a long enough splice to bring the signal into the engine bay.

Pfft, Nando gets some references from this guy, he's been talking about 24V swaps since BMW started making the damn engine!
