Not sure what happens if the seller completely closes down the account however
Nope. Not unless it changed in the past 12 months: if there's money in the account, well and good, if not, you get what's there. I got $3.xx out of $500 for something a moron on VWVortex never shipped.

It must have... When I bought my wheels overseas the guy got my money, used my money, emptied the paypal account and never shipped me my wheels. Paypal put his account into debt and refunded me my money.

What you're describing sounds TOO easy to scam someone, lol.

Gifting is not wise if the seller does not have solid feedback. I personally let members buying from me know that gifting to avoid fees is perfectly fine. I sell so much on here with an active almost 6 postings daily.

I think it is WHO you're doing business with that matters. I personally never do business with shady members. I did business with Monkey Madness for over the sum of 750.00. I sent as a gift to avoid fees, he is an outstanding member to the BMW community. 750.00 is alot of money, but I trusted him fully.
I ONLY gift if it is a member with solid feedback and carries him/herself in an honest manner.

That is very hard to find to be honest.

All my items that are sold get snap shots BEFORE I ship them for my own personal protection. Then item is shipped with proper insurance to match the part I sold. Everything comes with 100.00 base coverage for optional insurance(ALWAYS BUY IT!) cost maybe 1-2.00 depending on level of insurance.

In the end it is about conducting a honest service, I like to hold my standards to NOTHING below my own that I would request it delivered.

I LOVE this section, helps weed out losers that are not worth the hassle.

Did you ask Travis about this? He might be willing to help you. Also if you didn't do a gift there would be nothing that could really happen except you pay for the shipping back to him and he refunds your money, other than that paypal would tell you to work out the insurance with UPS.

Travis is a standup guy. The question already has been asked if you have spoken with him OP and you're yet to answer. He packaged my stuff really well. But as I asked already, what was his response?

He asked me to send him the money as a gift so he wouldn't get hit with the fees and I stupidly agreed, with conditions. I asked that the wheels be packaged extra well and that they be insured, to avoid problems. Well of course, 3 out of 4 wheels made it fine, but the 4th one has a decent bend in it right on the lip where someone dropped it. The wheels were packed in a tight and thin layer of cardboard, no "extra" anything like I had asked for. Now i'll be paying an extra fee on top to have this wheel repaired and/or chasing my tail across town trying to get UPS to pay a claim.
This is all bull shit... I went with Travis when he shipped these... 3 were already packaged by us, the 4th was packaged by ups, which he asked them to package it extremely well. He insured them like you asked... Now it was my understanding that the bent wheel in question was the one packaged by the attractive ups lady... And even after you got shitty with Travis we went back to ups and they said the insurance claim has to be sorted on your side. You have the rim, you have the box that it was packaged in, which also means you have the shipping number specific to that box. Travis will chime in here soon now that I share this thread to him. Very unprofessional to go behind someone's back, especially a fellow airman
                Good day sir

OP, that's just a dog act. A female dog at that. You know what we call them now, don't you?

Very unprofessional and Travis should report you to your CO.

You paid 280 dollars, I wouldnt say thats more then the going rate. Shipping was quoted at $80 but ended up being 100 bucks because of the extra packing ups said they would do. I didnt tell you that, I just covered it myself. The rim that was bent was packaged by ups after I told them to take care of it. Each rim was insured for 100 each. More than you paid. I have been back and forth to ups trying to fix this. I asked you for the tracking number on the package, the paypal invoice (or proof they are worth 100 dollars each and a quote for the repair. You bitched some more than finally sent me the tracking number, I printed the paypal invoice, You told me just to look up the price on some web site for a style 5, and then you sent me a random email from some guy you talked to saying the repair is 100 dollars. I said an email wont work I need an actual quote to which you replied another email from the repair guy sayin he doesnt give quotes. wtf? Obviously I am the only one trying to do anything about this and all you want to do is bitch. If you would had been reasonable instead of trying to act like a hard ass, I would have refunded you everything or fixed the rim, granted that ups didnt take care of it (which they will)

As I said I have done everything trying to work this out with you and ups to get the insurance paid by ups but all you want to do is whine and complain instead of taking action and working with me to fix this. Its on you from here on out Ive done what I can, I dont appreciate being bad mouthed and having my reputation hindered before you even talked to me about this.

Good luck. And again I apoligize if they were not packaged well enough for you, They were packaged in 16 inch ATS wheel boxes, same boxes they were shipped in before.

Thats my first and last post in this thread. Have a nice day;)

btw my real transaction feedback http://www.e30tech.com/forum/showthread.php?t=111946

Same here. They recovered a fraction of the amount before the guy cancelled his account completely. PayPal didn't do anything else. This was about 6 years ago on eBay.UK he kept saying he sent it but I never got it. According to his feedback left before he cancelled, I wasn't the only one he scammed. There was also another time my friend got robbed the same way on eBay. By the way, I'm not saying all overseas guys are crooks, just more risky. I wouldnt hesitate to do business with overseas forum members with good feedback but a stranger on eBay is completely different.

they probably put a hold on his bank account. Paypal generally won't pay for anything out of pocket. I hate using them, but no other option is as widely accepted.
