I'm not a parts shop, I mainly do big jobs but sell parts on the side. If a buyer is concerned that their item is fake or faulty they can ask for a refund. once again I would be stupid to sell "fake goods" for a few bucks. that would ruin any business's reputation and would be very short-lived. Most of my parts are from other people so I don't know what others do with their parts when I acquire them. you shouldn't accuse anyone of being a fraud or a fake, especially when it was a simple mistake that I have gone out of my way to clarify.
also, how would I know that I was selling "fake goods" if I said it myself that I was convinced it was an LSD? you can even see before I ever made a post on this thread someone pointed out that I offered a refund
I don't think I have much more to add to this argument since it could've been solved with a simple refund from the buyer. Mistakes happen sometimes I'm at fault and sometimes the buyer is at fault. either way, I try to make things right but that does not happen all the time. in this case, I believe that the buyer should have either requested the cover to be taken off before purchasing or just a simple refund.

have seen that not work many times. you have to lock one side of the diff down. simply holding the flanges won't do it. guys here tried selling bogus units that way. i won't buy it without opening the diff.Leave a comment:

I have seen so many diffs with incorrect tags, information, you name it- I ALWAYS pull the cover and verify ring gear stamp and carrier stamp when i pull a diff out of a car and mark it before it hits a shelf.
Open 3.73s claimed to be limited slip, 2.93s sold as 3.73s, 4.10s sold as 3.73s, 4.10s sold as 4.27s, welded diffs claimed to be lsd, etc
gotta pull das coverLeave a comment:

if it's an LSD, if you hold the input flange, you shouldn't be able to spin either output flange in any direction. with the input loose, the output flanges will spin together until you exceed the breakaway torque, which is substantial (like, breaker bar level of torque)
if you try this with an open diff, you'll spin the spider gears and the opposite output flange will spin in the opposite direction of the one you're spinning.Leave a comment:

If I hold the input flange still and spin one output flange, an LSD will spin the other output the same direction whereas an Open will spin opposite. Right?
(I'm about to go pick up an LSD and don't really want to pull the cover)Leave a comment:

you can spin flanges of an open diff independently when it's out of the car.even open diffs will act as an lsd off the carLeave a comment:

To be fair, it was an LSD just not a factory one from what it sounds like. Sounds like an honest mistake that anyone including myself would make. The seller did offer a refund and this would have made things right had the buyer returned the diff but unfortunately he didn't.Leave a comment:

then surely you know that is not a test. even open diffs will act as an lsd off the car. the only way to tell for sure is by opening the case. which the purchaser should have insisted on, and you should have done if you were indeed a reputable business.Hello,
First of all, I did not know it was a conversion kit since I spun it with my hands and it behaved how an LSD would. yes it was an open diff conversion kit, no I did not know nor did I mean to scam anyone not just because its a scummy thing to do but I would be stupid to ruin my reputation over $500
fair enough. but from here it looks like you knew you were selling fake goods.

That really sucks but these things happen when buying old parts...things sometimes get swapped, etc. The buyer really must do their due diligence to know what they are buying. This problem was made worse by the fact the buyer was from out of the country and couldn't complete the refund.
Get in touch with a local in the community to help out next time. I'm sure someone would have returned the diff and got your money back to you.Leave a comment:

Hello,
sorry for responding 5 years later but there are some things to clarify for the sake of my business

"Called him multiple times to try and fix the issue without any success" That is a complete lie I offered to return your money back at my shop but you told me to drive all the way to downtown which was like a 3-hour drive with traffic at the time, which I was not going to do for a measly $500 I offered you to return you had somewhere to be, you going back to Australia is your responsibility you aren't entitled to me to drive all the way there you are one out of many customers, if you wanted a refund you could have come to my shop I was more than willing to give your money back.
I'm writing this for clarification since your bad review is one of the first things that pop up when you search my name and I'm just sharing my side of the story.

Im from Australia and was in LA for 2 nights. He knew i was leaving the following day after i had called him to report the issue. I was not going to carry an 80lbs diff that was worthless to the airport and pay for additional baggage. He continued to stall, full well knowing i would be out of his hair and out of the country.Leave a comment:

From what I saw in the facebook argument, he made more than reasonable attempts to get the diff back and refund you. You made the mistake of leaving the diff in a hotel room, why would you expect any seller to refund your money without getting their product back?Leave a comment:
