Yikes, that adapter bother me. I'm sensitive about wiring, and I think you'd be better served by not even having an adapter cable.

Just wire the motor straight to a C101 plug.

What are you going to do, swap that motor back into an e36?

yeah, I don't get it either. wiring it up directly is not hard, and you don't end up with hack job shit like check engine lights inside the harness, or melted wiring because they didn't know what they were doing. $100 for an adapter made from scavenged junkyard parts? no thanks..

If it's a "Shop", and not a single family home two car garage with a kid playing in it, the expectations you imply I'm ignoring should have been even higher. I would take a shop to court for that quality level of work, and if it's a shop, he should be providing written estimates, even if the payment is in barter/trade.


I think Greg should ask everyone to stop defending him, and defend himself, because as more and more info comes out, the hole is getting deeper and deeper.

This thing really has gotten my attention, I've priced some large shops in the Seattle area for the 24v swap. Seen what methods a charging shop would work from. Then applied my 10+ years in the industry to the equation.

Really, this is a 14-20 hr job tops with Greg, at $45/hr., you would be in the $900 range. There is no way a guy in his parents garage could charge $90/hr.

I think that part of the problem is having an understanding of expectations, knowing all of the parties involved etc.

When the seller delivers what they expected and the buyer didn't make clear different expectations then a problem ensues. The buyer paid the price seemingly in agreement with the seller.

His prices are not the same as someone like StrictlyBMW or other large BMW shops in the area for anything I've ever priced or considered.

(I've never had greg do a swap for me, both of my 24v motors went in my car with my hands in my garage - neither motor was sourced by greg)

I have bought parts from Greg and they were always top notch. Very clean and reasonable pricing. I have bought E34 Oil pans all the way to full M20's

That being said Chris has become a good friend of mine and is frequently at my shop. I have seen this car in person and I cant describe how disappointed I was at Greg's install. Nor the way he handled himself when talking to Chris about the problems, from the PM's I've seen between the two of them.

I hope Greg does the right thing and at least gives Chris his parts back... In fact, I am very surprised Greg hasn't done that already. On top of that it made me a little angry when Greg responded to this thread and denied he was in the wrong.

Just my 2cents, as I have no personal involvement. I just don't like seeing members of the community get screwed. It is even more irritating when its a buddy getting screwed.

Everyone makes mistakes and has deals go south. It's how you handle the problems that show everyone what kind of man you are.
I don't see any problem solving going on, and I see lots of problems here.

Had I had a garage or space, you bet your ass I would have. That said, Greg would still be in this situation as he misrepresented (lied) about the condition and care the motor had had. Or even his time into it.

Greg built my motor, and it has been great.

I have also bought many parts from him and have had zero problems.

He has also been extremely helpful when I've had problems (I did my own swap)

I'm in no place to comment on your situation chris, it is just unfortunate for everyone on here that you guys were unable to resolve the situation. People like 5toes posting things like that is ridiculous, meet and interact with people and form your own opinions on them. I know greg, and not chris... that doesn't mean I automatically think chris is a bad person because of this situation and I would never do business with him. In fact as far as I've seen on here he is quite the opposite and is very helpful and a genuine person.

In my PERSONAL opininon though... I think people should do their own swaps. Take the $1300 or whatever and buy tools needed if you don't have them. Learn about your car, because afterall you are going to be the one driving it, and we all know it's going to have problems because it's a fucking BMW. Doing your own swap really helps you learn your car. <--- (this isn't directed towards you chris as I don't know you, just a general statement for anyone interested in a swap)

Blunt did a call out to see who could help him get his car running again. If I weren't so far behind I would jump on it.
