DME did not fix the problem. Its some kind of fuel flowing issue, When this happens it sounds like the fuel pump is working overly hard to keep it from dying.

This is an old thread, but I have a pretty good idea having just gone through the same thing.

i've seen similar problems from a slow reacting ect, not on a 24v bmw though so im not sure how the computer would handle that...
          just a thought

TPS maybe? The ECU does not know where idle is on restart.
I would test the TPS, then fiddle with adjustment.
Does the car smell gassy when warmed up?...CTS

Looks like a fuel issue to me. The fact that it's worse when hot really supports that. When an engine is cold, the ecu will open the injectors longer so it will be more willing to run when cold. The O2 code is probably because it's trying to richen the mixture to compensate but is unable, so it probably means the O2 sensor is full of shit (or so it thinks).

What are the details of the OBDI conversion? Did you use the pink injectors? Did you get a proper chip? (the stock tune is for a 2.5L engine with 19 lb injectors).

Mine does kinda the same thing right now, but I think its a timing issue. It starts and dies right away. I think the timing is very off.
