My M54 originally came with a 3 1/2" MAF and a larger throttle body than the OBD1 motors.
Even with OBD1 components, I'm making more HP than a stock M54.
I've done a ton of datalogging on it and found that the MAF isn't getting close to saturation (plenty of signal headroom left) but I am starting to draw a slight vacuum in the manifold at higher rpms. That is a result of the entire intake tract, including throttle body, MAF and air filter.
I suspect that the combination of the larger, stock throttle body and 3 1/2 MAF may yield me a few ponies.
Why would they give the 3.0 M54 a larger TB and MAF than the stock S50? Must be a reason...
