If you jumped the car by engaging the clutch while it is rolling? I did just that and I started to hear this tick afterwards. I started the car the next day and I still heard the same thing. WTF?

I've done that too many times with no new noises afterward. I don't see how that would bend a valve or cause any other problems unless you did something excessively stupid.

Exhaust leak? Maybe a small crack opened up slightly during the abrupt jerking around of the engine?Comment

Trust me, I can hear a tick. Its actually pretty loud. I am at work, but I will try to get a sound clip on here so you can hear it for yourselves. I hope it is not a bent valve, but the car is running like sh** and is ticking for sure. I am going to take it to a shop for diagnoses, but got to get my exhaust sys taken care of first.Comment

 No.

The only time I would NEVER jump the car that way is if it involves rain or water.

True story: I tried to start my 914 after a heavy rain once and it only cranked briefly before stopping. I thought "WTF?" and considered push starting it for a dead battery until I had the sense to pull a spark plug.

 Water came out.

Water had run down my carbs and filled the cylinders, the engine was hydro-locked. Push starting it would have bown the cylinder heads off.

I pulled all the plugs, cranked the water out for a minute, put the plugs back in and drove it to my scheduled brief. Changed the oil that night.

You can't bend the valve by push starting your car. the only way to do that is if the chain breaks or skips teeth, which is nearly impossible.Comment

Yes. The exhaust is mounted solid to the engine, and attached to the chassis. So any hard jolt of the engine could tweak the exhaust and open up a small crack even more. Normal running doesn't involve the same type of hit to the engine as pop starting it does.

It's just a slight possibility, a random suggestion. There's not much to 'tap' on an m50... injector, lifter, exhaust, maybe a valve.Comment

If your engine moves that much, your mounts are shot.
