Yes I know but the Diff i got has no cover on it. So instead of purchasing the finned cover, what are my other options/

The z3m diff cover looks different and is "finned" for better cooling, but it's still interchangeable with the e30 cover.

Bringing this thread back to life.

Today, I tried to put my output flange from my E30 diff. They slide it nicely but, my only question is.... Is it normal that they poke out more then the original Z3 flanges?
Are the E30 half shafts shorter than the Z3s?

Yeah, that's why you have to swap them.

Why are my output flanges not the same?

The one on the right is missing the dust shield.

Ohhh I thought it was one solid piece.. Now that you mentioned it, I checked realoem and you're right.

Can you help me with my first question about the e30 flanges sticking out more?

Yeah the half shafts are different lengths for the E30 vs Z3m or the bolt pattern might also be different but I'm not 100% sure.

I don't know if this applies to your situation or not but I used a 3.15 Z3 diff from a non-M car in my swap. I didn't change axles or stub axles, I just put it in. I've done this twice and never needed to swap anything. Maybe the M cars have a different bolt pattern though?

Z3 M's have bigger CV shafts

I haven't seen one in person with the stubs swapped but the cases are the same. it should be fine. perhaps you didn't push them in far enough?

The fit and slide in fine. I actually hear them snap in and lock. It's just that they poke out further then the Z3M flange. I hope its normal and that the M20 axles are shorter
