Well there is always a first time for everything.
Maybe the lid of the ecu was swapped over who knows.
From what I was told today, m50 swaps that where done in the early days used 402 ecu`s.
And the only difference is one pin & wire, but as I said I didnt do the swap this is how I brought the e30. And I am ask`n for input as I just don`t know.

Find out if the vanos is working.

If the dme is a 402 the sensors and wiring harness will match- and the vanos will not work.

The cam and crank sensors are different pn's between them and the nv engine harness has no plug connecting to the vanos solinoid.

If the vanos is functioning then the dme is not a 402 and the cover was just swapped.

        Baseline:

See if vanos solinoid is plugged in.

See if harness has knock sensor plugs x2

See if 402 is actually a 402 by popping it into a m50nv car.

I stand corrected, but with all the major components hooked up, wouldn't it atleast run?

Been Sunday morning i took the e30 for a drive, ok in 2nd gear all the way to red line (6500rpm) NO up in power or rush or anything at any point of the rev range.

Also a look in side my ecu, this is as far as I was go'n to pull apart the ecu, I don't know how to seperrate the boards,

Will get a friend to help pull apart

i dont remember all the details, but camshaft sensor one being hall and the other vr the shielding is diff too, timing is a couple degrees apart from nv and vanos. maf pinout, btw iirc the ecu pinout is different between 405-05 and 413.

but dont quote me on that, if it runs then im wrong :)

That's definitely a 402/403/405 DME since there are multiple boards with a ribbon cable connecting them.

A 413 DME only has 1 board. Looks like this when opened:

                    Thanks for that!

Yeah it shouldn't run, but I've heard of one other guy switching over from a 402 to a 413 on a non vanos motor and it ran too.

I guess both of theses DME's have a "limp home mode" that kicks in when their is a fault with the cam and crank sensors. Its smart that the Bosch engineers did this, too bad they don't release all this extra information to the general public

Vipec do a ecu setup so may look at that.

Just retried again nothing!! E30 will not start.

you must have a NV wiring harness as well

Do you care if your vanos functions or not?

Harness and all sensors and afm and dme should ideally all match.

Not really, I want to supercharge the m50 towards the end of next year. Just want to sort
It out to avoid any issues later.

May look at the miller war chip setup.
