I never had issues with whether or not the primaries were equal length. I belong to the "Who cares, they cost 200 bucks and chicks dig headers" school of thought. As BDSax said, it is obvious they are not. I bought headers because I spent $800 on a VSR center section and want to neatly adapt the headers to the cat-pipe. I'm going to great lengths to put together a clean swap.

Yes I'm going to run AC.

Eh...when I had them right in front of my face when my motor was on the engine stand they looked equal to me. I just never whipped out the measuring tape.

Supersprints and Actives headers will fit no problems. Or you could get the replica ones off ebay. I mentioned the seller on page 1 or so of this thread.

I have the ebay headers from nas trader. I got them quick, and for about 140 shipped.
My question is: what is everyone using as a midpipe? Can I get some pics?
I was thinking about going 2 into one after the headers, but the offset length and sizes make it a pain, not to mention I'd like it removable.
Damn, I need to get a muffler on this s50 swap so I can drive it!

                Thanks

yeah one pipe is tapered on the end rite? imma just cut that off on mine, and make them even, then have any decent muffler shop fab up and exhaust with flanges after the headers to unbolt them when needed...

Flanges would be ideal, but the problem is the headers are already bolted up it will be hard to fully weld the flanges. I was hoping I could get a couple stainless lap joint clamps and attach the ob2 m3 midpipe or something comparable.

What are these headers meant to mate up to?
The m3 midpipes I've seen pics of, have flanges. Will they slide on if the flanges are cut off?

The headers come with a two sided sleeve. All you do is cut a factory set of midpipes to the right length (cutting off the down pips and flanges from the exhaust manifold). You leave the tapered section of the headers alone and it is the same size (ID/OD) as the factory midpipes. Sleeve goes over both ends and viola! I did it and it works great! Going to weld on some flanges eventually for easier disconnect though.

Look on bimmerforums. e36 guys are aplenty over there. I got my stock s50 mids for like 150 or so shipped. And the car went through DEQ clean as a whistle.

To keep my line straight when cutting off the midpipes, I put a hose clamp on the pipe and traced around it with a marker. Remove the pipe and there's my line.

Remember that the pipes are stainless so have a sharp blade in your sawzall or use a cutoff wheel.

They aren't even close, but it doesn't really matter all that much. OEM BMW manifolds aren't equal length either, and they work fine.
