why so many size changes? you can lose a lot of velocity with all those changes. I would have made it 3" from the Y-merge back and be done with it.

Just ordered all the bits for my new exhaust.

    Ebay headers
    Vibrant 2-1 collector 2x 2" into 2.5"
    2.75" mandrel bends
    3" Borla XR-1 muffler
    2-1 collector 3" into 2x 2.25"
    into my existing Stromung cat-back

Way more money than I should have spent but whatever... hopefully it won't be too loud.

On my new swap I used whatever cat was on my original swap car with ebay headers. Then I brought that into the stock m42 318is muffler in the rear. It looks completely stock, but sounds pretty damn good once you get on it. Not near as raspy as my old magnaflow.

The exhaust shop didn't want to cut up the beautiful stock Euro BMW manifold so he custom made a new one.

    E36 M3 muffler and E34 M50 mounting hardware

Heat shield moved to over rear axle to protect the rubber from heat

Intermediate pipes replaced to match the E30 body

Retained exhaust hanger which will mount to the gear box (not mounted yet)

    really good looking work.

Will get an updated clip of my exhaust this week, but damn is it raspy! I wanted to put the middle muffler where the stock resonator is so there is a "S" shaped 2.5" pipe after the Y-pipe. Sounds good, but much louder than my previous setup!

The Vibrant almost HAS to be run with a middle muffler! It is a very loud muffler. I tried it with just a resonator and muffler when I switched down to 2.5" from 3", and it was obnixious.

I've tried 3 different middle mufflers to get the tone I wanted (spintech, dynomax, and now the borla) and the Borla was the ticket. I'd be interested to hear what 2 Vibrants would sound like, I love this muffler!!! :pimp:

thanks......if you have some "underneath" pics...Id love to see em....

But Im hoping (like the m20) just a cat and rear muffler is fine. I like it loud as it is more of a track car.

I guess you dont have to run a cat?...
Yeah, the xr-1 is a great looking muffler at a nice price. I think the Borla you currently have would sound great with the S50, but with just a muffler and a cat it may be a little loud depending on what exhaust manifolds you're running (ebay, OBD-I, OBD-II, TMS Shorties, etc.). But then again sounds ok since its just a track car. The vibrant sounds awesome, but would it justify the extra $ just to replace the borla? Maybe if its too loud have the borla moved to the middle by the cat and run a Vibrant in the rear?

I technically have to run a cat, but have a modified E30 midsection w/ stock cats that slip right over the eBay headers and bolt right up to any E30 325i catback exhaust which I will use the next time I have to go through the sniffer. My emissions isn't up for another year or so and they just use a sniffer so its no big deal. I barely put 2500 miles on my car this past year so it doesn't bother me.

    Joel,

I'd say keep your Borla at the end if its a 2.5" In/out and go with a nice muffler for the center (XR-1 perhaps) if you're looking to keep it quiet.

    Just my $.02
