Another S52 swap... but this time with a newb!

hello. when people talk about tapping the head, where do they do it? is it just expanding the coolant hose spot (where you made your adapter?). if you were to drill into the head, how would you get out the metal shavings from the coolant passages? i just bought an m52 :D planning obd1 as well. if you'd pm me your wiring diagram that'd be grrrrreat

They usually tap the blank area where there would usually be another temp sensor on the head like older m50/s50 heads. But you could tap the coolant feed hole if you're not using it. To clean it out just flush the system (easier since you have the motor out) using a hose. About the wiring diagram, I have to pull it up as I have to find it and make it reasonably easy to read.

Anyways, picked up a 98 m3 stock muffler in mint condition for 25 bucks.

Just need obd2 midpipes to complete the set.

Get a remus muffler with an X pipe, 3in all the way back. You get alot of attention when you put your foot down but its nice a quite at idle.

Naw it kinda sounds like ass right now with the Spintech in the middle. I will be switching it out for a Borla next week, then it'll sound perfect! :pimp:

Get a VIBRANT muffler with an X-pipe, 3in all the way back. You get alot of attention when you put your foot down but its nice a quite at idle.

look at where your HOT coolant resevoir is. its bottle necking all that heat to your intake with that shield.


p.s. not meant in a dick way. just trying to help you out in your search for cold air.


OMP sells a filter that has a hose leading out the nose of it too that you can connect to your stock "cold air" intake right behind the headlamp.

None taken. I don't think the reservoir runs hot at all specially with the car running. The engine's temperature runs a lot more hotter than the reservoir would ever get so it does serve a purpose. Plus, I'm still using the stock air director scoop that flows the "in motion" air towards the filter. So I think it helps a bunch.

The whole purpose of the my heat shield is to protect my filter from sucking the hot air from the engine bay. The reservoir does not get hot or anywhere near hot to influence the air around it.

Lol... I should have made a video yesterday. Went canyoning and highway running. I like to log my setup. I'll get a video soon. Possibly 0 - 100 and a 60 - 120.
