Much appreciated Janderson. Looks like a fine setup you have there. I'm particularly fond of the way the whole thing tucks underneath as well as the dual tips that shoot straight out the back. Any guess as to why yours has no rasp at all, even without cats?

I'd like to think my shop could merge my headers together with a y-pipe as well as jam a cat in there before the first muffler.

Be sure to post up a sound clip if you ever get the chance to make one. I, for one, would love to hear it!

Any opinions on the Aero Stealth mufflers (to be used instead of a borla for the mid muffler) that are also for sale through verociousmotorsports.com?

^The ceramic coating inside and out removed his rasp.

I haven't got my exhaust on yet, but I will be rocking my 3 foot resonator in hopes of killing the rasp, it worked on the M42 and that was BAD.

I just hope the free stainless steel exhaust I got isn't too loud, or I will have to pair some different mufflers with it that I have laying around.

This. They are inside/outside coated, and since the metal of the headers is so thin, the ceramic coating gives them a dense new coating, and deadens the vibration in the metal, which is what causes the rasp in the first place.

Copy that. I was unaware that they were coating the inside of headers. Makes perfect sense!

Not every place does it, and if they've been on the car already, there's a good chance they won't be able to sandblast the insides of them well enough to create a clean bonding surface. You have to make sure that you request that the inside is done, as well.

I didn't know you could ceramic coat the inside, thats awesome. Does a shop have to do it or is there a DIY way to do it?

For a real ceramic coating you need to take it to a shop, they run usually around $200 for an inline 6.

Most powdercoat/ceramic shops charge by the foot. I paid $14 per foot of pipe. Measured from the flanges all the way down each pipe to the collectors, then from the collectors to the ends of the Y-pipe, ended up costing about $160, and then to do the insides was another flat fee of $30.

My good friend just returned home with an m50 swap he purchased in WA. The previous owner has put on a custom 2.5in exhaust with two magnaflow mufflers. We took it for a spin tonight and it actually sounded way better than expected...nice and deep, a little bit of rasp higher up.... and it wasn't overly loud from inside the car. I was honestly surprised at how decent it sounded.

Would it be correct to assume that that a borla/vibrant combo would probably run a little bit quieter than a dual magnaflow, or just sound better at a similar decibel level? Youtube clips do these set ups no justice whatsoever!

Does running catless on these motors actually make noticeable power with the proper tune or is it usually just a matter of of a simpler build?

it might possibly be quieter, i have 3" with a borla/dynomax and it's pretty much silent. I don't know how the vibrant compares, but I like the tips.

catless isn't going to do anything for you.

My 2.5"/Borla/Vibrant combo is pretty quiet, almost silent at idle, very quiet at cruising RPMs, only loud when you REALLY get on it, and then it sounds sooooo good.

And I love the tips on the Vibrant, one of the best parts of it. :)

This is where I got mine. Lines up pretty well, I think I am going to shorten my headers a bit, this should give it a much more snug feel. If not, just fill it with weld! Haha.

Also, totally forgot I never posted the vids of this exhaust on the dyno when we were messing around at RMS one night. :p
