I'VE SEEN IT FOR MYSELF. I own a swapped IS and a lightly modified IX and I am a tech and have seen hundreds of customer's cars as well as my own. The IX was designed with a different strut tower configuration then the e/i cars in order to account for the steering/drive issue on the front wheels. The upper strut mounts were moved forwards by quite a bit to eliminate caster, thereby reducing steering effort which would have been increased by the front drive. This makes them handle like trucks but the powered front wheels compensate for that a little, the instant you remove power however, you now have a car with zero caster and no front drive to account for that. Add more horsepower to that equation and you have another car around a signpost.HONESTLY... i can see what your saying but the only thing i can tell you is that you have to see it for yourself. i think ill get an m20 motor and tranny stick it in let the weight set on the frame and wheels to see what happens. and work it from there. but from what i see and to my knowledge i think it will be for the better.'89 325is S50 Track Montser

your right the subframe from the ix was a bit forward from the i ... however the mounting positions were still there for the i subfame, that is why i was able to put that in with no effort.Comment

If you want a swapped car, or any rwd E30, you should use a rwd platform. The IX was designed specifically as an AWD car and converting it and adding power isn't going to be fun and could potentially be dangerous on the street. Caster is what centers the wheel when you let go of it and provides valuable steering feedback. To not have that on a 240hp, sub-3000lbs car will be scary.
I tried to tell you this months ago but you got all angry and insisted on "being different" despite the fact that we're all just trying to help out. Now if you want to swap an S5x into an IX and keep the AWD system, THAT would be cool. I know a guy who's in process, I'll have to see how that turns out.'89 325is S50 Track Montser

Camber and caster are different. Do some reading on suspension geometry.
The positioning of the subframe in the body is just to clear the front axles and have a mounting place for the motor. The issue is with the strut towers. The subframe mounts to the frame rails which are the same on all the bodies but the strut towers are IX specific.'89 325is S50 Track Montser

yeah sorry about that . :neutral:Comment

no, but people let the boots go bad for 30,000 miles and then have to buy a $500 CV shaft from the dealer instead of a $20 boot kit.
there are a lot more options than just H&R sports..
if you want to know how an ix handles when converted to RWD, ask Ryan G. It was bad enough that he pulled the 24v motor and converted it back to stock..Comment

the only difference in the frame rails is the mounting holes for the AWD subframe. It still has the holes for the regular steel subframe though.Comment

So a driveline vibration under load = deaded CV joint up front maybe?no, but people let the boots go bad for 30,000 miles and then have to buy a $500 CV shaft from the dealer instead of a $20 boot kit.

or a dead flex disk (there are 3), bad rear u-joints, could be a CV joint but those usually click/clunk when you turn the wheel.
My hunch is an out of balance rear driveshaft or bad flex disks. the CV shafts are too small to really cause a vibration unless they were very damaged, but then they would probably just explode by that point.Comment

how do i get in contact with him.no, but people let the boots go bad for 30,000 miles and then have to buy a $500 CV shaft from the dealer instead of a $20 boot kit.
