Find the Polish guy on here who did the swap. He should be able to help you out. Plus with the m54's small intake manifolds, you can get a bigger brake booster along with bigger brakes. :DCheck out Undr8d Empire on Facebook: www.facebook.com/Undr8dEmpireLlc

Ive been thinking heavily about this swap too....
Whats with everyones "just do an euro s50 swap" bullshit? I want an s54 damnit not an s50us or s50b32.
If Vanos is not a problem, solved by just by-passing it, then I think this swap truly shouldn't be a problem. Any sort of capable EMS can run a motor without vanos.Comment

The only reason I would want an M54/S54 over an S52 is because of the dual VANOS (and the aluminum block on the M54). Why does everyone keep talking about locking out the VANOS with standalone?
I want to run the stock ecu and keep the VANOS.
The M50 was a big mystery until everyone put some effort into learning it and making it work in the e30.
The M54 is the next generation and I'm sure we can tackle adapting it into the e30 without standalone management.
Is it too early to talk about N52?Comment

Why get rid of the Vanos when the Pectel unit can actually control both vanos units properly? My 2.9L Build!

the right way to look at it is. do i have enough $? then if the answer is yeas, you go for it and all the problems you run into along the way will work themselves out. with some $ time and a lot of patients you can do anything.sigpic

thats the worst way of looking at things ever! if people thought like that then no one would ever do anything amazing! there are so many things that have been done for the first time and no one knew how to do it right. they just dug in their heals and went for it.

Other people in this thread seem to understand this much.Comment

So, today my stock S54 managed 305 rwhp and 317 rwnm with Autronic SM4 and locked cams. Compared to stock dynographs with VANOS you loose some torque below 4000 rpm - but as the E30 is a lighter car I don't think it will make a big difference in overall performance.Comment

Awesome!! Congrats I am glad to hear that it went well for you!Comment

Congrats on the S54! Sounds like a fun project.
You have locked cams, which brings up a question I have. How are the cams mapped in the stock ecu? Are they mapped strictly as phase-rpm or are there more variables involved phase-rpm,throttle position, etc.
Can the cams be timed by a standalone cam position controller??Comment

With an S54 it's much more complicated on every level as it has maps for each cam's position based on a number of factors.Comment

Update. Hard to understand but you can get the jist of it.
"In Regard Bimmerworld, i called james yeasterday and i spoke to him regarding the kit and he say's that they have it ( i mean if you got the stock S54 DME just send it to them they will modifie it and will remove the EWS , and they have a wiring to fit on E36 but you have to do the cluster which they will send a guid for that) so they can run oure E36 S54 but in that with $3100 "
