yeah, there's no benefit unless you cut the tubes down. ground control does offer a shorter insert for the ix though.Comment

Its like my 10. BMW but my first ix, and theres not alot of them up here either so someones experience would help alot.
I need to be able to put it back to stock when/if i want/have to. Winter can be pretty rough north of the polar circle, and almost every modification can make the licence plates dissapere.. :P
But, what coilovers would be possible to fit in the tubes? Regular 325i 51mm?

Mm, yes for wintertime. We got aprox 4 months of hell pr year up here.. :P
Any modification has to have "TUV approval" to get the car road legal, and cutting tubes will be hard to explain and hard to undo.
If I get pulled over that is. Its hard not to hear the turbo, so im kinka waiting for it to happen.
Have been wondering on giving the JOM kit a try.
Its cheap and gets a lot of thumbs.

well there's no reason to use shorter inserts if you don't cut the tubes. and if you have them powdercoated I can't see how they'd even know - they'll just be ~1" shorter, otherwise indisinguishable. I'm assuming having the coilover sleeves welded on will be ok with the TUV assuming the parts have the right documents?Comment

yeah, you can use coilovers from a 325i touring, it's just the inserts that need to be ix specific.
a potential stumbling block are the mounts for the swaybar link. I believe you can use the stock E30 M3 peices, which might help with TUV..Comment

the struts won't work, they're too long. you need ix specific struts, and the only place I know of that sells shorter inserts for the ix is Ground Control (they're konis so TUV should be OK?).
you can use the springs and rear shocks though.Comment
