Just wondering if you have a matching viscous front 4.10 diff, can you put a regular E30 clutch pack 4.10 rear diff in an IX ?

i was wondering this myself. I have an automatic 1990 ix and Im actually looking into replacing my rear diff. I read that the ix has a specific viscous type diff. And that it has a medium case. would there be any problems with installing a clutch type diff with a small case? Or should i just keep looking for the "right" one. Im in no hurry.

if ur going to replace it get a clutch type diff i have beef with viscous diffs lol. make sure its the same ratio as ur front diff or else ur gonna destroy ur tcase. urs is an auto so u should have a 4.10. oh and another question is the ix 4.10 viscous or clutch? cause i know my 5 speed was a 3.91 viscous.

Some local e30 guys I met at the junk yard suggested upgrading the diff in my iX. I asked them the difference and they said the clutch setup was beefier for say drifting. And I can understand If I were in an M50 rwd setup. You could probably cook the vicious diff. easily. But with the AWD I do not see having that problem. I have an auto with a vicious rear and it appears to operate the same as a posi on jack stands. I cannot see any reasons it would not be recomended as a replacement for the visc. dif.

standard clutch pack diffs only have a 25% lock up. but where im confused is that it really shouldnt be rated in percentages, because power can change but clutch packs dont magically breed. i think its something around 65ft/lbs is the break away.
im not sure if it's called 100% lock up because the viscous has a break away torque spec at 160ft/lbs.AWD > RWD
