For the gland nuts, I used the torch method, liquid wrench, and what finally did it for was the hammer. I set the gland nut area sideways on a jackstand (round support) and hammered away on the housing while rotating the housing. It broke up the rust bond, and the the gland nuts came right out.

How about getting those bilsteins apart?

Got the Bilstein's all done, but my glad nuts are BAAADDD.

Any suggestions here? Just torch, PB Blaster and lots of effort???

The one I have pictured is the worst one - you can actually see the threads! This is after hitting it with a wire brush... Suggestions or will this whole housing need replacing? I had considered having something machined and welded in though...

My other strut looks a lot like TD's left glad nut - but it's pretty bad too. I haven't gotten either to budge...

Man... my e32 and e30 were easy to do this on!

Id look for a used strut. :(

You could have a new threaded section welded in. Ix tubes are thicker, i think similar to the E36.

My spare housings were just like that. I could NOT get the nuts off - I was doing coilovers anyway, so i just cut them off.

That's what I was afraid of... I'll get a pic of my other one and send it to you. It's in better shape, but not great.

check ebay - I've seen them go for $150 or so.

keep the old ones in case you want to do coilovers some day far out in the future. :p

Torch vise pipe wrench hammer. Repeat 3x in my case. They did come out but it took a lot of effort to break them loose. Heat is critical.

$500 for a pair of used housings is a total ripoff

Yea, thats just the passenger side though. I think the driver's side might have some material left there, but won't be able to check until Tuesday night.
