I have a brand new TC. if we can come up with a standard test that anyone could do, I could test mine as a baseline.

man, thats a great idea. it would be so awesome to know what torque value it will take to break it loose.

do you have an extra front drive shaft?

what if you took the rear section (u-joint, past the slip yoke) and inserted that and made some sort of bracket to mount to the four bolts of the u joint or just weld on a socket?

I dont know if the shafts are the same size or not, but you could get a crappy old shaft for free or close to it probably.

that would over-torque that one lug bolt or even snap it. if anything, you could use the axle nut since it should be around 200ft lbs anyway.

i agree that this would certainly be a better location but i seem to remember there being a piece of sheetmetal that locks the nut in the axle. i was thinking it might be in the way. also, if he can spin it by hand without too much trouble, it probably won't be an issue for the lug nuts. most people probably won't have the right socket to fit that nut in the middle of the hub since it isn't a common size.

it has been a long time since i messed with this. i'll put some more thought into it

I'm pretty sure the torque that it takes to slip the VC is waaaay less than what it would take to snap a lug bolt. one lug bolt probably has 50,000psi or more of shear strength.. you're not going to shear that with a torque wrench. :p
