FS: 89 325ix complete engine, auto trans, transfer case, front & rear drive shafts

Was working great when I pulled it out a week ago to start a v8 swap. Compression is 135-140 on all cylinders and I have a video of it running but I am not sure of its history
Price includes complete unit: engine, alternator, AC compressor, auto transmission , transfer case, front and rear drive shafts.
I will separate the parts but would prefer to sell as one complete unit ready to install

    Located in Calagary, AB Canada

Asking $1250 obo. Make me an offer

What V8 will you be swapping? And will you keep it AWD?

I am putting an LS (5.3 L33) with T56 6spd in. And no it will not stay AWD. Once done the car will be a summer Dailey driver and track day beast.

On another note; does anyone out there know if the CV head on front and rear axles are the same size where they go trough the bearing and hub?

Its not going to handle very well as RWD... Good luck with that.

Yea man bad steering geometry for a RWD car! Maybe trade the iX shell for a RWD?

The zero caster iX suspension doesn't give good contact patch feedback from the front tires when cornering at the limit.

The lack of caster also means that the iX doesn't have as much caster induced camber gain as the RWD cars either.

If you are in love with the shell, it has a great paint job, etc - maybe think about welding in a RWD clip up front. Know anyone with a frame shop? Two days of drilling spot welds is always fun. Probably less work than floor pans, honestly!

Bottom line is that iX shells are a lot more rare than RWD. It should be way easier to find a RWD donor.

Yes, was aware of the different front end geometry and have been working on a number of ways to bring it a close as possible to the RWD geometry.

I actually have a question for you. Another member recomended you were THE GUY lol. Do you know if the slpined shaft on the front axles is the same size as the RWD axles?

I think they are, but I have not physically tried them. I have a rear hub flange and a front CV - I'll check it today.

Which spline? There are FOUR splined interfaces between the diff side gears and the hubs.

Where the shafts actually go into the CV joints?

I've read that E87 1 series rear hubs work on the front of an iX.

That is exactly what I was hoping to find out packratbimmer. My car is at the body shop so I could not try anything. Basically trying to find out if other axles will fit int a front ix hub.

Thank you and let me know what you find out

OK Cool - you just need something to hold your hub together after you remove the axles. Are you running ABS?

Will dig out those parts this weekend.

the better solution would be to run RWD struts. Maybe not E30, but something that suits the geometry and doesn't have front hubs.

I mean really, the ix strut housings are heavy as fuck. If you want RWD it's really the wrong car for that..

Disassemble your current front axles and just put the spline section in. It's only 1 bitch of a circlip away from disassembly.
